I've been driving for awhile and my friend is looking to strat driving also. He told me he has type 2 diabetes. He isn't on medication because he doesn't need to be. Will the dot physical except this? Does he need to get a doctor's note? I know the dot is strict so I have no idea of how to advise Him for type 2 diabetes.

That's unusual to have type 2 and not be on meds, the only restriction is if you take insulin
-
You sure its actually Type II w/meds and not just high A1C levels ?
Huge number of people in the USA has high A1C levels ( pre-diabetic)
but are not on meds.
Just gotta get the body back in line with weight loss and proper diet. -
My dad has diabetes type 2 and takes medicine. He still drives

On your DOT physical it asks you do you have diabetes, and how do you control it. I think the options are with insulin, pills, diet and exercise. Also if you state if you have diabetes they will test your blood sugar and A1C during the physical. I think it has to be less than 200 blood glucose and 8 or below on A1c

I guess it depends on the Dr.

Hubby has it and he drives. Just control your diet and exercise.

Thanks everyone I'll tell him to check out this post.
