401k is there pension plan its investments beyond our cpp. CPP only pays out like 12,000 a year. You need a lot more then that!

Yeah, the 401k is a defined contribution plan. You can also ignore the comment about insurance as that will be health insurance.

@gokiddogo: I'm living a few hours north of Edmonton, AB but I still have strong ties to the North Okanagan region.

@04 LowMax: I'm still turning wrenches for the time being. I love it but it really takes its toll on the body. I'm just trying to get a little insight into the industry.

I always here about the 401k but never really bothered to look it up. Sounds like a better deal than CPP.

I'd say about 70k in the first year, if you claim 9 depedents....

That's how the junk trucks are cutting rates.

Anyone who asks a potential employer what his take home will be shows a complete lack of knowledge about wages. When I hire people and get asked that question the resume goes to the shredder. Your take home depends on whether you are married or single, # of kids, maybe a parent that you are supporting, child support from a previous marriage, maybe a handicapped child, income from investments, etc.. Lots of variables.

That's probably why I'm asking people IN the industry BEFORE I get to that stage.
