Federal Regulators to Toughen Truck Safety Rules
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration would be able to declare a carrier unfit based on roadside vehicle inspections rather than going through an audit process

Federal highway safety regulators are proposing new rules that would make it easier to find potentially unsafe trucking companies and order them off the road.
Under a plan the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, or FMCSA, released Friday, trucking companies could be declared unfit based on highway inspections of trucks rather than going through a longer and more complicated process that audits a company’s operations.
The agency, a part of the Transportation Department, now has the authority to shut down a trucking company if auditors find unacceptable rates of violations such as exceeding permitted driving hours or failing to make required vehicle repairs.
Last month, a Williston, Vt.-based trucking company called Land Air Express of New England became one of the largest companies in the U.S. to be ordered off the road for failing to properly test its drivers for drug and alcohol use, among other violations.

That's only fair if drivers can report lowlife DOT Inspectors and they can be fired for being incompetent and falsifying inspection reports when they make up some BS just to make a quota.
Straight Stacks and bigred81 Thank this. -
DOT: I need to check your p3ck3r to make sure that it's above the minimum required length.
DRIVER: No.
DOT: OoS. Whole company. -

I'll believe it the day carriers like Western Express get shut down. Until then, it's nothing but a touchy-feely let's pretend we're actually doing something to earn our useless paychecks public media BS ploy to distract.

This appears to be yet another action that will be implemented without "due process"....Add it to ever growing daily list of actions that are being laid on us without due process....All in the name of safety, of course....
