I have to agree with Richter as he was my trainer. He described TMC to the "T". I've been with TMC for almost 1.5 years, did line-haul for 3 months then became dedicated hauling sheetrock in the northeast for 10 months, home sometimes 3-4 nights a week and home every weekend. Did that till i got tire of the city driving and then went back line-haul and now have a 579 and love it.

TMC is not just a great company to start with but a great career as well. They are eployee owned, have great bennefits and they take pride in their drivers and equipment and it shows. I would recommend TMC to start with.

I am about to start CDL school and want to join TMC. I have heard a lot of bad things about Per Diem pay for company drivers. I found some posts regarding per diem, but they are from 2010. Are you allowed to opt out of per diem at TMC or do they require you to enroll in it?

Per diem is the drivers choice.

Let me explain the truth about perdiem.

First off, the IRS lets you deduct a certain amount of money for every day your not home in your truck on your taxes. Since drivers are are out a week at a time this adds up to a lot of money. So perdiem is not bad at all and your idiot if you dont take a free deduction.

That being said, there are 2 way to take advantage of this deduction.

    1. let your company take it out for you. It will confuse your paycheck, but you get the tax saving up front. Since you get the savings up front, your actual taxable income is less. This is bad if you applying for a loan, because it makes it look like ou make less money. Really you just make less TAXABLE money. Note, most comapanies charge a small admin fee for doing this for you. Advantage s you get more money each week on your pay check

2 Opt out of company perdiem and have your accountant take care of it when you file taxes. You just tell him how many nights ur out and he gived you the refund. Your taxable income is higher so it looks better if applying for a loan and you still get the tax deduction. you do have to keep better track of nights away from home and your check thoughout the year will be lower. You do get it back at then end of the year though. No company fee as well.

So, is having your company do perdium a bad option? Not really, but if you do it at the end its better. you not loosing thosand by letting the company do it. Either way...at TMC you can opt out.....In Short.....
company=more money up front...slightly less over all....look worse if applying for a loan
End of year accountant=more work on your part...smaller check during year....slightly bigger refund
