Does TMC live up to the hype?

ArmyMP, I do not work for TMC, but if I were going to choose a new company to drive for, it would be them. Last fall, I applied and was then given an invitation to come to their orientation. I had to soon thereafter decline due to family obligations (found out the wife is pregnant!). All the research in the world has convinced me that TMC and Maverick are two very well ran flatbed companies with many satisfied drivers. If my situation were different than it is currently, I'd be in one of their trucks! Might I suggest going and reading Gunner's thread here? It's full of great insight and information.

Gunner 75 already quit TMC.

 

They are always hiring for a dedicated route out of Indy...imagine that.

 

I'm a TMC driver. Been with them for almost 2 years. My first year I made 53000.00. Over 6 months of that was on a lower paying dedicated run. (I'm still on that dedicated account) and before you ask, I'm home about 2 nights a week and every weekend. As a OTR or as we call it, Line haul driver, you'll be home 48 out of 52 weekends. That is what TMC says but chances are, unless you want to stay out, you'll be home more weekends than that. Of course, that depends on where you live and the which line haul you go on. (boat division is out 2 weeks at a time, John Deere or Specialized division is 2 weeks or more).

% pay is the way to go and when you are with your trainer you'll actually get a sheet to fill out with each load that will show you the difference.

You will more than likely start out with a Peterbilt 379, will upgrade around the 6 month period with a 579 that has bunk heat, inverter, and 22 inch HD TV.

TMC dispatchers are usually very very good at getting you home every weekend. But you have to remember that where you are is dependant on the freight available in what ever area you are in. The 2 most important days to getting you home are Monday and Thursday. Most of us will leave out Sunday Night to be at our delivery point so we start Monday morning with a full clock. Thursday is to get you in a good freight position to get you home on Friday. I see you are from NY, chances are you'll bounce around the east coast as there is a lot of freight. You'll probably hit IL, IA, IN, OH and south like GA, KY, TN, NC, SC. We have a few dedicated accounts in NY but I'm not familiar with all of them, so there is a chance you could land one of those and be close the house all the time.
