i recently signed on as an owner operator with Transport of America. I wouldn't recommend it. they say safety is number one, but it is actually avoiding toll roads that is the company priority. even hazmat loads are routed to avoid tolls. this adds up to 100 unpaid miles per trip. additionally their fuel discount is almost nonexistent. the most fuel discount i have gotten in a week is $20 on a $1,450 fuel bill. you will basically be paying pump prices, since they have so few authorized fuel stops. they do have a lot of miles, but their deductions are above average. i get to keep less than the fuel surcharge after deductions and my fuel milage suffers due to routing and extra unpaid miles.

i had over 2400 miles last week and i netted $957 last week. my fuel surcharge was over a thousand dollars, though. as an example, the load im on now pays 683 miles, but it is actually 754 miles. that is about how far it is off on average. if i terminate the contract early i also have to pay them so, i guess i'm stuck for a while.
