Please make sure that if you post a news report or article from another site, you give them credit! Also do NOT copy the entire article and paste it into this forum. It IS common practice to copy up to TWO PARAGRAPHS and then give them credit like:

after the article is posted. We do NOT want to be accused of plagiarism, or copyright issues, and those who write the articles DESERVE credit in the first place. So an article would be like this post from CyberGal:

Proper Way To Cite An Article:

[ Three years after Massachusetts authorities vowed to close all leaks in Boston's Big Dig underground highway system, it's still leaking.
In fact, the Boston Globe reports almost 2 million gallons of water flow through one of the tunnels each month - a nearly 20-percent increase over last year's volume.
The state is now spending about $5 million a year to plug leaks, the Globe reported. One official notes they're making progress, with only about 800 leaks left compared to more than 3,500 in 2004. ]

Normally, up to 10-15% of an article can be "copied/quoted" as long as appropriate sources are also quoted. This is one thing that can bite a site in the backside very quickly and there's no wiggle room on the issue.

I've had to deal with this in the past, and what happened was the user was banned, every post he ever made was deleted, and we provided the author of the plagarized material with the user's information for legal action.

If you think that you're above the law regarding copyrights, keep in mind, most sites WILL provide your information to the author and law enforcement authorities.

Yes, we WOULD provide the information legal authorities needed. Now we would NOT just provide info to any dummy who comes along asking for it, they would have to send me a legal letter or subpoena it, etc. Then, of course we would. If someone just sent us an e-mail asking for ANY information, they would not get it. IF someone sent a letter from a REAL lawyer, that was paid for or a law enforcement agent, then they would be provided the information. We protect members here and NO information is available to even other members for safety. We do our best to STOP anything that we see as plagiarized here. Of course, it is practically impossible to catch everything with over 20,000 members...simply impossible. So, watch what YOU post, people, YOU are the one who is responsible under the law, NOT us! Make no mistake, you are NEVER anonymous on the net...contrary to what you may think...
