Please, please, please do not ever let this truck stop be bought by TA/Petro.
After driving past it many times I finally decided to stop here and see what it's like.
When I saw there was lots of truck parking, including two spots right up front next to the restaurant (not marked for handicapped..I checkded) I was skeptical. However after walking inside and getting a down home regular truck stop feel to the place, I felt like this was going to be a real treat. One of the things I noticed shortly after walking inside was the smell of wood..and that would be the hand made kids rocking chairs for sale. What I didn't know about until later and thought it was really cool was the fenced in dog area for the furry co-drivers to run around in and stretch their legs.
Then I tried the restaurant. The waitress told me their bbq was pretty good. Heck it's near 4th of July, sure let's have some bbq! Pulled pork dinner, please, with a side of cole slaw, baked beans and a biscuit. I asked her what the hot slaw was since I've seen signs for it all over the place so she went to the buffet and scooped a little out for me. She told me it's home made and its like cole slaw but with a spicy kick to it. I'll admit, it was unique. It was different...and I had to go back for seconds. The pulled pork was good but what really made it better was the bbq sauces they had. Regular and sweet heat. I'm thinking these too may be home made as well. Both were good. I kept going back and forth between the two trying to figure out which one I liked better.
The staff, both restaurant and c-store are all really nice and friendly.
I don't get to say this often but I feel it's worth it: I really like this place.

Yup and to top it off there is a strip joint just on the other side of the interstate lol. But you are correct the truck stop is top notch. Its on I-65 at the 22 mile marker.

This was one of my regular stopping places when I was running SE regional. Pop's BBQ at the Tennessean is definitely a hidden gem.
j3411 Thanks this. -
great food in there wish I still ran that part of the country..

ta/ petro i would not be worried about, it's the BORG from Knoxville, aka Pilot one needs to worry about.
Yes company drivers have to fuel where told, but they do not have to spend thier own money at the big 4.
Support the ma and pa truck stops, cause if they vanished into thin air, then parking in most cases will vanish as well.tracyq144 Thanks this. -
Came here to the Tennesseean tonight and spent $8 for a shower (Loves up the road where I planned to shower before coming to park here had no showers due to a water heater failure. Very nice shower IMO. All tile.

Best country buffet in any truckstop IMHO. Too bad it's so close to home I rarely stop there.
Oops I was thinking of the North Forty exit 126 I40
Exit 6 I65 - 2nd best country buffet but extra points for the BBQ everyday. -
