Maybe this is new, maybe it's not..

Last night while sitting at the Pilot in Braselton Ga. I noticed (in my mirrors) people walking between and behind trailers. It was typical parking, i.e. trailers backside to backside..NOT a good place to walk or stand.

Shortly after noticing the strange activity a guy, approximately 30 yrs of age, blue wind breaker extending below his waist approached my truck..

I rolled my window down and he started rambling about an Atlas driver arguing at the fuel desk and his company being contacted.."He's in the back corner of the lot, lets go watch". He started waving his arm for me to follow him towards the back of my trailer..

I actually started to get out of my truck! Idiot! Anyway, when I didn't follow, he stood at the back of my trailer waving..

About 15 min later an old man, untucked flannel shirt, ball cap tapped on my door and attempted to get me to follow him.. I flatly said no, and he went away.

30 minutes later the first guy approaches a truck across from me.. Same scenario, arm wave to come on..

This driver got out of his truck and began following the guy..I debated for about 5 seconds, got out of my truck and cut them off.. I told the driver, "do not go back there, they are probably going to rob you"..the driver said "thanks bud" and went back to his truck, the "guy" said "who got robbed?"

I told him "NO ONE YET, but you and the old guy your working with, trying to get drivers out of there trucks are trying"..

They disappeared..never saw them the rest of the night..

Had same thing happen at Flying j at the 80/39 junction in IL. a few months ago..only this time it was to see a celebrity in the back row..

Ive been driving 13 years and wondering if this is a new scam? Or has it been going on and I never saw it..

    Anybody else experienced this?

During the day this is usually the same type of scam they use to get inexperienced guys conned into the 3 card monty.

Thanks for sharing. Never witnessed that con but can't say I'm surprised. You never know what you can run into or what will come to you at a truck stop, small or large, regardless where no less. I suspect these occurrences will only get more frequent. Problem is, on private property, the local pd/sheriff's dept are not allowed to make random drive throughs on their shift, and these would help discourage a lot of illegal activity. And few truck stops will pay for a 12 or 24 hour "security" presence.

was at the ta in binghamton and about midnight woke up thinking something wasnt right.grabbed my lock and went to the back of the trailer to find a guy standing there. As a excorrectional officer I looked him right in the face and said you are not a driver as i was putting the lock on the trailer. He walked away but I got back in the truck while looking over my shoulder.I got on the cb and told the drivers that was awake that someone is behind the trailers.about 5 drivers showed up by my truck and went looking for the guy.I went inside to tell the manager someone is messing with the trailers and he said they knew. They thought it was a homeless guy looking for a place to sleep.really in a reefer?that lot is open to a street behind there and would make it very easy to commit a crime and run

i think he means the two guys trying to get the drivers out of their trucks left, not that the drivers disappeared
