Your thing of another place, This one is on 39TH. and Morgan. I believe thats the Bridgeport neighborhood -
Its on the corner of Pershing(39th street) and Morgan (1000 west)
it used to be a Citgo Years ago...Yes,Its fairly safe......The Diner in Back Will make you a Serious Maxwell street Polish thats literally a FOOT long!
ALSO..If you guys come to Chicago...Check out Raymonds Hamburgers on the Corner of Damen and Blue Island.. BEST Burrito you Ever will have! (Take i-55 south exit Damen Go North about a 1/2 mile to Blue Island ave. They are on the Northeast Coner)... Double-Park on Blue Island for a minute or two If You cant Parallel Park) -
We went across the street to deliver for years, back when that place was a working plant, and that location was always crawling with recreational reptiles, as late as last year, they would bother you incessantly even though the plant had closed years ago.
Lately, I have seen signs posted in the city, I will try to get a picture of one sometime, which lead me to believe they will prosecute the customers now, too, and not just through fake entrapment soliciting.
I was told it was cleaned up, but apparently it wasn't then. On the other hand, hookers don't like being beaten, shot, or stabbed, and it was safer than the abandoned lot where you tend to be alone unless someone is there to hurt or kill you. I haven't seen evidence of that kind of activity there, so it is safer than some other places in the Windy.
Joe, did you spend a 10 hour break there overnight? I went there when it was cold, out of hours, hoping to do a split of 8 hours, and I was able to do that but I was gone by the wee hours. There are other places I'd rather be than that one, and the Dunkin closes when the truck wash gets less busy. I don't walk far at night in the city, because if it's run or die, I'm doing the latter.
Last summer, on a hot day, I went there and figured I'd nap a few and leave when they started knocking, they are very persistent alarm clocks. That was good for something, I guess. There was a city driver talking about building a trucker's motel across Pershing on the vacant lot in the station, the Dunkin's was closed for the day, and she said it would have to have a security plan in place for the city to allow it. I wished her well.
So has it really changed, or just for the moment? That's the question, and I do go there if need be. -
