Say Good By to Johnson's Corner in Lovelnd,CO. as we know it

TA won't have a restaurant much longer in my opinion. They will turn over to a chain like Flying J did. Chains tend to bring in a much larger crowd and gets TA out of that business.

I think what he means is that TA/Petro is a good sized chain and is happily in the restaurant business with no interest or intention of getting out of food service.

 

The first time I ever went to Johnson's Corner (mid 90's), I sat down in the restaurant and ordered breakfast. It came on three filled plates: Eggs and Sausage on one....Toast on a little one...and a massive pile of Hashbrowns on another one. All very good "home cooked" food. I was full and happy. As much as I loved it, I was glad I wasn't on a dedicated run that went past there all the time---would've been a fat *asturd with high blood pressure & cholesterol, because I wouldn't have been able to control myself.

I too am tired of seeing the chains take over all these Mom & Pop places (biggest disappointment is Pilot taking Bosselmans). Even Sapp Bros. seem to be going down hill...wonder when THEY sell out?
And if the big chains don't get them...I have seen a lot of places bought by foreigners, and ran completely into the ground within 3 years when their Government grant expires and they have not put a dime back into the place.

It's just not profitable for truck stops to run their own restaurants. TA and Petro pretty much suck. They have to call their burgers burgers because they are not 100% beef. Only places that serve 100% beef are allowed to call them hamburgers by the FDA. Denny's blows the doors off Country Pride and the rest.

People on the highway and tourists sure as hell aren't going to be drawn in by a truck stop restaurant but put up a Denny's or other chain sign and you will.

Now Johnson's Corner and others is a different story. They serve great food as do the other independent places. Going in and seeing a sign that says the special is meatloaf with gravy, carrots, mashed and buttered rolls just makes my day.

 

Denny's sucks large. Wait to get seated. then wait again for a waitress, wait then again to take an order, wait still for your order and then sit there and wait for a ticket. It's an hour for toast and coffee.

 

Looks like ta wants them for the cinnamon rolls so they can sell them elsewhere. Take on Cinnabon.

 

Maybe, but the food is good and consistent will all other stores. I've always had good luck there with being waited on.

 

Well that's just a shame, liked stopping in there and TA can say all those great things but you know as soon as they go in there they will gut the place of everything that made it good! Just look at all the other places they have trashed.
