Will they ever crack down on truck stops that charge for parking? I think it's so wrong how they take advantage of our HOS Laws so we have no choice by law but to pay for the parking or risk a fat violation looking for elsewhere to park.

I don't think so. Truck stops are privately owned property, so the owners can charge if they want to. There are many that will let you park for free if you purchase their fuel or spend $20 in their truck stop though. I've parked and bought coolant and oil and a cup of coffee and got back out on that. Those are things I am buying anyway, so it isn't an extra expense.

Some petro' s require you to get at least 50 gal of fuel or $20 in merchandise to park~I don't understand it either went to park at a rest stop the other day had a 2hr limit, drivers are getting squeezed all over~like the call ahead reserve parking

The reserved parking at Petro and TA, I have no problem with. I don't like to pay for parking, but since some of you drivers are too cheap to pay for parking, if it means finding a spot to park and paying, so be it. Just think, if those were free spots, there would be no parking because they would fill up. Since some of them charge to park there, there are open spots for drivers like me who need a spot.

Think of it this way, how profitable are some of these smaller truck stops? Many people just use them to park and urinate between the cat walk after they throw their trash out the window. In big cities like Baltimore, I guess parking is scare and land prices are high. They may have taxes to pay and other bills.

I'd just say to the OP, stop complaining. If you don't like it, don't park there. Or, get your own truck stop.
