I work out of Jacksonville and drive down 301 passing by the Baldwin TA 3-4 times each night. Always empty on Friday and Saturday nights but Sunday through Thursday night the place is packed with usually 15-30 trucks up and down the side of 301 since the pilot and TA fill up so quick. I loved the reserved parking when I was OTR, Made the day easy with not worrying about where I'm going to park.
Reserve it truck parking at T/A

I have been to several mom and pop places, and usually the trash and such isn't as much as an issue as it is for bigger corporate truckstops.
you want to be forced to pay to park, then park at those truckstops and support those truckstops that mandate you to pay to park there, or go ahead and get your fuel, and spend the night, only to find out in the morning someone else needed your fuel more than you did. (so now your 12-20 dollar night that you spent $300-600 for just turned into a 600-1200 dollar night.)
I won't support, or buy anything from any truckstop that requires one to pay to park. And if I park and go inside to buy things I may want and or need, and I see a sign on the door that says xx amount to spend the night. I will grab all that I went in there to grab and about 20 other items just for fun walk up to the counter and while he/she is ringing it up will ask about the pay to park, and if they say yep you need to pay to park, then I tell them well I don't need all this as I don't support pay to park and walk out the door.
if one wants to make it optional, such as the ta, petro does, I don't have an issue with it, but to mandate it forget it. -
how does buying something at another truckstop benefit the one you are parking at??SHO-TYME, passingthru69, Blind Driver and 3 others Thank this. -
he can have the mom and pops with the dirt lot and the 2 foot craterspeterd, DrtyDiesel, The Admiral and 1 other person Thank this. -
because usually when we are talking big chains such as pilot, loves, ta, petro, they are all owned and controlled by one corporation. (there are a few mom pops that are independent but use the majors name)....but for the most part....
when you buy at one pilot, all pilots or the pilot corporation itself benefits.... kinda like walmart, they can keep there prices low, and when one or more or all the walmarts do well then all employees under the walmart banner gets benefit from it. -

I was thinking this as I was leaving the Pilot in Franksville, WI and saw 5 tires by the dumpster, who has to pay for those tire to be disposed? You can't just throw a tire away, you have to pay an environmental fee. Well, Pilot can pay for it, right? I mean, they're a huge corporation with deep pockets; just stick it to them. And now I know why it costs $8 for a couple of hot dogs, bag of Doritos, and 14oz of milk.
Remember back in the 70s, they had all those commercials about cleaning up and pollution, the crying Indian, and Woodsy Owl saying, "Give a hoot, don't pollute." Did they work? I don't know, I didn't have enough situational awareness then to know the difference now. But the drivers of today should be made aware of the cost, financially and environmentally, their actions are having. There should be a poster as you come in through the drivers' entrance of one day's trash that was picked up off the lot and a reminder to use the garbage cans. Will it work? For some yes, for the "you drive your truck, I'll drive my truck" crowd, probably not, but I believe it is an effort that should done.77smartin, SheepDog and DrtyDiesel Thank this. -
Most days I don't have trouble finding parking, whether its at a truck stop or an alternative. That being said, having the alternative of a pay-for-parking slot on a night that I'm tired and out of sorts from dealing with jerks on the highway is quite welcome. Especially when a truck stop is full. Truck parking spots are a limited resource, and when demand outstrips supply charging for them is how supply is regulated in our economic system. Don't like it? Move on down the road... that's your choice, as is throwing a temper tantrum at the cash register.
I'm sure the clerk was highly impressed by your principled hissy fit.Cranky Yankee, SheepDog, Ebola Guy and 2 others Thank this.
