Hi Folks.
Just joined this forum and I really had a motive when I searched you guys (and gals) out.
I've been driving for a couple of years now and I pretty much have all the same disappointments and arguements that most rookies do when they try to change their whole life around a job that can so easily take control of said life. I've accepted my fate. I'm going to be doing this a long time it looks like. I'd just like to change the way I am doing it.
I'm looking for a deal that I just can not say no too.
I want to buy my own truck. I don't want an old fleet truck and I don't want to pay dealership price. For what I can afford to pay those are the two main things a dealership has to offer. An over-priced fleet truck.
So my objective is to find someone that is just ready to get out of the business or maybe get out from under an extra truck that they are having problems filling the seat. I can say that I don't want anything old. 2003 is about as old as I am willing to consider.
I prefer a Frieghtliner with a Detriot. Auto-shift is a plus.
I would consider all others except Mack or Internationals. I just don't like them. It's a personal preference, so please don't jump my ### or ask me to qualify why I feel the way I do.
I would prefer to discuss terms or deals in the form of a PM but, other ideas such as where to look are fine here. It may even help someone else in the same boat as I am in trying to make such a choice.
**Discuss**
I want.. or do I..???

I will say this... Money Talks, Bull ####e walks.
So you get someone to give you a truck on some sort of payment plan, then what? Do you have any collateral? What are you putting up? Your word? And where are you going to make all of this money to pay the note? Lease to a company or get your own authority?
I have seen deals like these in the past, and they rarely work out for various reasons. And the majority of the time, the guy holding the note on that truck gets burned.
Save your money and do it on the up and up, as I seriously doubt you will find someone to make a deal like that. Trucks are plentiful out here, and in many cases going for pennies on the dollar.
And I apologize for coming across as a dick.

I'm not talking about leasing a truck or asking someone here to hold a note. I have the money or I wouldn't be asking. -
Oh, you have money. I misunderstood, sorry about that. You have money and want to buy a truck, you picked the right time to do it!
Like I said, there are plenty of deals to be had out here right now.
And, I would not discount the dealers either. They need to move trucks, even at a loss if need be. And I would call some of your local dealers and tell them what you are looking for in the way of a truck.
My salesman, he passed away, would call me once in awhile to see if I was happy with my truck, as he had a potential buyer. Or when I was looking for trucks, he had a list of some good used equipment that was just sitting in some yard or at a guys house not in use but looking to sell.
Just some thoughts. As it is a buyers market.

Many will tell you you should not start unless you have at least a $10,000 cash reserve , especially with a used truck . You could wait 30 -45 days for payment on loads and unexpected repairs could come up at any time .1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
Don't expect me to say the most intelligent things or sound as if I know it all. Some of what I will say might even sound totally unrealistic. As I said, I have only been driving for a couple of years. I have a lot to learn. I accept good advise and construtive critisism from anyone. -
I did what you did a few years ago... But I went out and found a company to lease to first, before buying the truck. I cut a nice deal for myself, negotiated an upcoming dedicated run, right by the house.
Then I went and bought the truck.
I don't know if that would work in today's climate, but you never know.

Woody,
I would post in the owner ops section about this. As waterloo said, dealers want to get trucks out. I and friend are looking at a freightliner for his fleet from a dealer if they are willing to negotiate.
HunterWoody13 Thanks this.
