My husband started was working for a company that was bought out by another company a few months ago. This new company said they pay 25% of the load. We have never seen what any of the loads pay except for one trip pack that they had wrote down the load paid 2200 then 2799 was written over top of that so I am figuring that they were paid 599 in fuel surcharge.
The owner took 699.95 out of the 2200 and then fuel, toll, wt tickets, and misc for a total of 1086.55 and then paid my husband 412.50 and now matter how I figure it this is not coming out to 25%. any ideas of how they are figuring this?

According to my calculations your husband should be paid $699.75 less any advances for this trip based on 2799.
I would recommend you contact them and ask them what kind of jewish accounting method they are using to screw your husband over with. -
By my figures if the load pays 2200 plus fuel surcharge your husband should get $550 for that run. Anytime I've worked on % I always got payed calculated on the gross for the load. If the company pays for fuel they get the fsc, I get all drop/stop/tarp pay.
-
If taxes and any other things like advances, insurance, ect. were taken out of the $550.00, then $412.50 may be right.

Is your husband a company driver? And if he is dose he have a contract stating he will be paid xx % on each load? If not then the company can say they will pay 25% but then pay what ever they want any way they figure it and there is nothing you can do about it. company drivers who get paid by percentage instead of the mile are not thinking straight.
-
Most drivers like myself that get paid percentage don't actually get a percentage
of the total gross but a percentage of what is called the line haul.
The line haul is the gross minus fuel surcharge, ins., and what the company takes
out as their cut. I get 25% also but afler everything is said and done I actually get
around only 17% of the total gross. -
The part that would REALLY make you mad is if you knew the ACTUAL rate the company was getting for the load. And its nothing new...been that way since trucking began.
More often than not, the driver never knows the real rate.
I agree with the others though...the company accountant is using some funky math there. -
Thank you for your responses and yes they can not do math. He is going to work for another company tomorrow, so now they will find another driver they can screw.
-
I ALLWAYS know what the rate of the load is. -
now each driver has to decide the way he wants to get paid and this is my opinion. ive been out here a long time and i have found this to be true.
there are several ways to get paid if you work for a company which i dont.
now ther is houshold movers guide which most moving companys use with this method you only lose about 20% of your pay, there are map miles with that method you only lose about 15% of your miles, and then there is % of the load now you got to bear in mind if the load only pays 100.00 and you get 25% you get 2500 sound good wright.
any company that payes % of the load is keeping part of your money why do you think what the load payes is a secret, but most drivers in perticular the new drivers dont realise this and the company knows it thats why they get away with it.
if a company any company payes % chanches are he is a crook or stupid or both, most honest companys pay buy the mile , hub miles or speedometer miles which is the most acurate way to figure milage and the method in which you can most be assured you get all your money.
now once you agree to work for % or any other method and you find yourself getting screwed you got to remember it was your decision to work for that and in most cases thats it nothing you can do about it , o you can sue in small claims court if you have the time and money to do it but there id no garentee that you will get the rest of your money then, is it right hell no but in reality your screwed the best thing to do is just get gone go to another company that does not pay % when you agree to that method of pay you pretty much agree to there methos of creativ math and believe it they have a number of ways to figure you out of your money and there is not a #### thing you can do about it they contrl the check book.
for you new drivers out there you got to remember this is a rough buisness in perticular when you first get started you got to learn which are the best crooks to deal with and if your a company driver your at the mercy of the company you work for is it right hell no can you do anything about not really except this , there is no law anywher that say that you can not quit your job anywhere , anytime you please the best thing to do if you find out your being screwed out of your money is quit and go elsewhere to work dont do as some do and keep working and keep getting the shaft quit and move on there are good companys out there that for the most part are honest dont sit around and complain it dosent pay anything just find a better job.
best of luck to all and happy trailes.------southernpride
