My fiance are planning on getting married next October. However, we have been wondering how much would we save this tax time by marrying now (elope) and have a big ceremony in October still. She has been my ride along all year, but I can't claim her as a dependent unless married because I don't have a "household". How much more money would I get on my taxes for the year being married vs single. I've only made 14k so far before taxes otr in the 7-8 months I have been with my company

14,000 in 7 months....... I would marry her so I could get more welfare and food stamps.

    Who do you work for?

WOW! 14,000 in 7-8 month before taxes! Holy crap, I'm glad in not new at this, a marriage might not be a bad idea, for tax purposes, but don't do it for the money alone, if you both truly love each other, why wait?

Two things, first you have earned how much??? That is a sad state of affairs and they wonder why the industry is such a ####show. Second you get married for love, not for a tax break ###...

as long as youre married by dec 31st of this year you can file taxes as married when you do your taxes next april. so just wait til October. if ya elope and get married now, forget the jazz in October. save the money and have a party if ya stay married a year.

no need to spend all that money in October , the cat already out of the bag. just being practical

In all seriousness ... at your current level of income, after you deduct your per diem and take your personal deduction, you won't have enough income to warrant taxes. You'll probably get back everything you paid , less your SSN tax.

Get married if your want to, but don't expect a big tax benefit from it.
