I don't think Pielsticker was a 1 percenter. He was a nobody compared to Bernie Madoff or that bald headed goon that runs Goldman Sachs, forgot his name at the moment.

One Percenter only means that of 100 people picked at random, Pielsticker had more toys than the other 99 Percent. Count the number of owners of trucking companies you'll find in a random 100. He's easily well up there. Madoff and the founder of 3M were up in the 1% of One Percenters.

//Was thinking about this in the shower just now and realized the 'natural curve of distribution' method isn't how the One Percent is determined. It is if you want to join Mensa, not whether your income is a One Percenter. In that case, I believe you take all incomes and stack them up without regard to how many make, say $50K/year--has nothing to do with how many make x dollars, the One Percent on top represents the top incomes and top net worths--top wealth holders. The One Percent.

Like 14 families in Mexico owning 90% of land and income, not that you could take 1% of the population, most who make $5-$10/day and call top 1% of those the 1%. No, the 1% in any country have wealth, real money. Maybe not Bill Gates or Buffet, who again are in the 1% of One Percenters.

But real money. Pielsticker had it.

I'm at Indiana University Maurer Law Library tonight. There are four tall plaques out in the lobby of donors who have donated big to the law library. The minimum to get yourself on a plaque, the bottom section, is $50,000 and goes up from there. Goes $50,000-$99,999; $100,000-$499,999; $500,000-$999,999; $1,000,000-$4,999,999; $5,000,000-$24,999,999; $25,000,000-$49,999,999; at top $50,000,000 and up.

Those folks are all One Percenters. And the bottom rung gave $50,000... 21 donors in each lower category x 4 plaques until you get towards the top, over $25 million. Those big donations haven't filled up like the 'smaller' gifts.

    Yet...

1%ers have either ~$350,000/year income or new worth of ~$8 million.

You might be surprised how many of the 1% worthers started from nothing & never made more than $150k/year. Often live in modest homes and drive boring older cars. Rarely divorced. Millionaire Next Door stuff...

By the same token, many of the 1% earners have low or negative net worths. Doesn't matter how much they make, they're always stretching to buy things they can't really afford to show off their wealth to their cronies. Pielsticker fits this mold.

Dahlonega was home from 96 to 13. Ranger camp and NGCSU. Miss it terribly; Lumpkin county GA was a great place to call home. Tulsa now, and CDL school starts in 5 days!
