Nice article. Unfortunately lip service is the norm in trucking.... and the drivers always get the shaft.

There are thousands of people coming into trucking every week who are leaving jobs that might pay $12 hour for MAYBE 40 hrs/wk. So, 35 cents mile and perhaps 3,000 mile/wk? Sound good to them. Everything is relative to where you're coming from. Never mind they are clueless to all the other sacrifices required.

But by all means, lets make potentially another 5,000,000 driving age people available to compete for [driving] jobs with "comprehensive immigration reform". What can possibly go wrong?

Wait til they have to sit at shippers and receivers and get paid NOTHING and sit on your bum - less than minimum wage

Yes it is all relative, just pointing out that to thousands of people 30 cents per mile is a pay raise, and sounds great to them....

Then reality hits, and 90% of them leave trucking before 1 year of service.

As to the 37 CPM being top pay being ridiculous - what sort of accessory pay is there? In 2014 I made 10 CPM more than my base rate in shorthaul , stop pay, bonus, etc. They might (or might not) be paying their drivers $65-70,000.

I know when Schneider cut their speed down the number of roll over and Schneider caused rear end accidents dropped by almost 40%. Not saying I agree with speed limiters (I don't fyi) but there is a safety argument to be made.

So, it's a choice between being run into (rear-ended) or running into the back of someone? Whatever happened to driving safely at a reasonable speed and being able to make it to the end of the day without an incident?

If they have to dumb trucks down to a slower speed to accommodate for drivers with less skill and safety sense, what are they going to have to do with trucks do accommodate (compensate for) the next generation of drivers? They ain't gettin' any better and every indication is, on the current trajectory, tomorrow's average driver will be more prone to crashing then todays poor driver, of which there are many. So, we can expect 55 MPH max speed trucks? God help us.
