Truckers who failed drug tests still driving

If an employer has no probable cause to suspect drug use why should they test their drivers? It's an invasion of our most basic rights. Do they test members of congress for drugs? I think that if anyone is to be tested it should be them. They have the capability of causing the most harm to the most people of any profession. I still think that probable cause is required but any examination of their behaviour the minimum threshold for suspected drug use or mental defect is more evident.

I wasn't aware that the canadian truckers weren't drug tested. I googled it and found there is some when they operate in the states but not in Canada. Learn something new every day.

Here's some food for thought as well. When they are tested. They have "levels" which they use to determine impaired or not. Not just usage.

Non of this BS zero tolerance. And getting branded as a 20/20 driver, because of something you done 3 weeks ago, while on a 2 week vacation in Amsterdam.

First I am going to say I don't do drugs..

But I do not agree with current drug testing.. If that is how Canadians do it then they are doing it correctly.. No reason why a man should lose his career just cause he burned one during his vacation..

Article does not mention disputed cases neither but simply lumps them as a hole..

Another thing I hate about drug test is they always are pretty much considered 100% accurate, and hard as heck to dispute if found dirty..

And I am sure you all have seen me say this before.. People who make all these laws for the public are not drug tested themselves..
You can't flip a burger at McDonald's without taking a drug test, but you can run this country or state and not be subjected to drug test.

All politicians should be subjected to drug test just as a McDonald worker is..

The athorities can't screw with the peoples rights in Canada. The Canadian Charter of Freedoms and Rights is our constitution and anything done buy the government that is in conflict with it will not stand. It has it's downside also. For example, if you are caught driving impared at a spot check that has been set up to randomly check for impared drivers. You willbeat the charge if you have even a half decent lawyer as the police had no cause to check you out. In BC the police don't even bother charging most people with impared any more. They are allowed to give you a 24hr. suspension and you loose your driving permit for a year once you have had 3 24hr. suspensions. They do it this way because their success in prosecuting drunk driving is not good.

I feel there should be drug testing on anyone that drivers a vehicle for a living. Meaning salesmen, truckers or anyone that will be behind a wheel for a certain amount of time, especially if they are paid for how much they drive. Salesmen are kind of , they could do coke and drive all night looking for customers. He is jacked up and might hurt someone for more money for more coke

But yeah if you fail it shouldn't hurt your career, it's not intended to. If you do SAP classes then you should be able to get another job, however doing a test every month to assure you are clean. I do feel that is fair????

Good luck with our believes and express them to the the FMCSA as they may hear your concerns, then again if you feel there shouldn't be drug testing they may say oh he/she is just a drugie.

ok, I dont do drugs. what gets me is we are tested for drugs at the drop of a hat, but they wont test eople who are on welfare its a invasion of privacy

Amen to that, how about the drug reps that are running around to the DR's offices??? I'm sure they don't dip into the stash......
