who says EX-CON'S CAN'T DRIVE TRUCK???

Melvin Bennett says he kicked cocaine with religion at the City Rescue Mission.
Quote:
Melvin Lee Bennett said he never cried. To him, it was sign of weakness. His life depended on being tough.

Bennett was living on the streets of Jacksonville, eating out of Dumpsters and searching for a way to get high. Every night, he was afraid he was going to die.
Now, Bennett said, he cries all the time - tears of joy. He's been living at the City Rescue Mission on McDuff Avenue for more than a year. While living there, he said he has gotten clean from drugs, found redemption in God and even a possible new career.
After completing a course at Florida Community College at Jacksonville, Bennett regained his commercial driver's license.
"I've got my livelihood back," he said. "I've got my life back."
Mike Evans, business development manager at City Rescue Mission, said he gets calls from transport companies all the time and expects Bennett, 50, to find a job in a couple of weeks.

I never said they couldn't get a cdl or get a job. All I have ever said is that it will be difficult for them.
I'm glad that the guy in your story turned his life around and is a "productive member of society" now. But part of his success lies with the fact that his employer took a chance. And that chance was an obvious good move. Everybody wins. Not all people are going to take the risk of highering someone with a record, right or wrong that;s the truth and you know it's true. It might not be right, but you know it's true.
