now who can forgot the boondock's in Iowa up there on hyway 20, with the windy alis chalmers tractor that turns around with the wind , then up the next exit or 2 is a small mom and pop truck stop at Latimer, Iowa, then as go further north was Clear lake , Iowa, now a pilot, they tore the original one down, but i rember going with my dad and watch them work on the truck's, then the worker's would be all greasy and stuff, come inside and eat at the counter, but Des Moin'es got the biggest secret of all truck stop's, i'll take pic's of it when i get a chance

The adult book store was undoubtedly much more profitable!

Where was the old union 76 truck stop in Indiana that had the red sulfur water. You'd gag drinking the water, and you'd stink worse after showering there then when you went in. I know they've since fixed the water problems. I haven't been that way for a long time and can't remember where it was.

I had forgotten about that, leaving the key in the ignition, and the fuel pump attendant parking the truck, man that is quite a memory, having your windows washed, oil checked, water, checked, truck parked..and he sometimes remembered your name..

When you could trust the attendant to pump your fuel, wash your windows and lights, check your oil and tires.

When you actually could, were even expected to, leave your truck at the pumps and go in and eat and everything would be done and the truck parked.

There's something to be said for "simpler times."

    Another good thread, John
I wonder if the old Mayflower Truckstop is still there in Milford, Connecticut, haven't been up that way in years, I know the Mass 10 is closed up, up just off the Mass Pike near Worcester

That was the Jersey City Truckstop, across from the Coca Cola Plant, right on the river, Rube used to Broker loads outa there, had a horseshoe shaped bar in the rear, you could have a beer and get relaxed and go lay down in the truck, and lay the gun where it was handy, before you went to sleep.

I was delivering produce to the NY market. this was before hunts point. You went thru the Holland tunnel 2.00$ about 4 blocks turn right down to the market on the water front TW the toll for a truck to get into the city was $2.00 it didn't matter if it was the GW VN bridge or holland tunnel and that was the only tunnel that trucks could use. The last time i was in NYC with a truck 1969.There use to be a good size truck stop in Jersey City used to eat their in the Dinner. if i heard the name i would recognize it

Could that have been Tooley' Truck Stop in Jersey City. Ran eggs into NYC egg mkt from Osage, IA in 55-56 and picked up my union man there. Old guy there brokering loads had done time in the "Castle on The Hudson" (Sing-Sing Prison). Real dandy..Derby hat, gamblers garters on his sleeves, coat and tie with a stickpin. Could get you spuds off Long Island to Atlanta any time.
