1.) A nationwide strike is not something that is plan against one company or any company for that matter. It is being planned to get the attention of the Department of Transportation and is thus a political act of free speech and therefore a protected act. The Congress of the United States could avoid a strike by showing good faith and repealing the 1-5 AM and 168 parts of the latest reset rules.
2.) A nationwide strike could and most probably would impact the stock market in a negative way. If one believes the market is going to drop, buying put options on the indexes would be a good way to make money.
As the idea of a nationwide strike is hereby being released to the public, buying such options is not an act of insider trading and is perfectly legal.
3.) The choice of Dec. 22, 2014 is so we as drivers can spend time home with our families. If Congress fails to act by then, they might have to miss a holiday. However, if they do we are sure that many Truck Stops would be happy to give them a free Turkey buffet to make it up to them.
4.) Truckers have a bad habit of undercutting other truckers in price until it becomes impossible to provide a safe environment for shipping. Freight rates need to be increased. There needs to be a lower limit placed on rates. That rate should be $1.75 cents per mile plus fuel surcharge in Constant 2014 dollars. That is for dry non hazmat freight. Rates should be higher for other types.
5.) Detention pay should be automatic at $50 per hour after 2 hours from the set appointment. Those funds should go to the driver.
Any other suggestions?

I'm all for a strike but you know as well as I do,companies won't go for the idea unless it more benefits them then the drivers.Detention pay,now you know carriers won't pay $50.00 an hr.Getting even 10 an hr is like pulling teeth and you have to be at the cust for so many hrs just to get that.Drivers alone need to take it upon themselves to go on strike and leave carriers completely out of it.But how many company drivers will do that.If you're talking about O/O,so what congress will say and not as much as lift a finger to help.

Yeah...been thinking bout this alot...all drivers will have to participate to make it work. O/Os, L/Os, and company drivers.
The first two won't do it because truck and other payments and bills that have to be paid. Company drivers like me fear losing their jobs. I think you might be able to convince some of the companies if you can force cost of diesel down and regulate costs of shipping, as you stated above. Also pay needs to be addressed. Not sure how to do that but needs to be covered. Got to have something to make sure all company drivers are guaranteed their jobs once strike is over. -
I often wondered what it would be like not seeing even one trk on the road due to a strike.Bet its a beautiful sight.
RAGIN CAJUN, Lucar, crappiejunkie and 1 other person Thank this. -
yep most wont do it
I can honestly say I would love to join a strike like this but in all honesty it will not happen, I cannot afford to lose my job for just a chance at getting things changed.crappiejunkie Thanks this. -
There won't be a strike. Simple as that.
-
Wolfyinc...exactly my point. There would have to be a guarantee made by all companies to give drivers their jobs back.
-
which wont happen, they will just hire new drivers willing to keep working with the current conditions

Striking to get a nanny state?
