Strike?

Wow, I was just looking on here and reading some of the strike posts.
What is it that makes people think that a truckers strike will really help?
Dont get me wrong I am all for a strike to help thing out but really, If some, ok all owner ops went on strike do you really think that will help when all the large companies will still be training people? And smaller companies are usung brokers to haul frieght around. So what will it really help? But I do remember talk about the strike in the 70's when All the truckers on strike were dropping stuff from overpasses, putting crap in fuel tanks, and even shooting at other truckers . Is this what everyone wants? why would you want to bring harm to someone for feeding his family? Why would you want to crush someones livelyhood just to try to get something you want.........
I am all for a stike as long as the company driver are not getting killed over it.
Plus you need to stop all deisel motors from running........... that includes ships, fishing boats, generators, small pumps, oil field workers, electric company workers, natral gas and propane workers, and anyone else that operates a diesel engine.

Sonereo - if your wife and kids were home alone and the electric company went on strike, then the power went out how would they eat and shower and use the bathroom?

What if all the truckstops went on strike and you had nowhere to fuel when you needed to make money?

all these questions and more arise when a person starts talking about a strike.
I do agree that we need lower fuel prices but Will that really ever happen?
porbably not...... its in our worlds history that prices go up but also so should the price of hauling freight.

So what i am really getting at is instead of whining about cheap freight just dont hual it and oyu wont have such a problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about not delivering to WA DC to send a message to start drilling domestically? We have people making poor policy decisions for this country with only special interests such as the environmentalist in mind. Drilling domestically and building more refineries is a solution to the current problem. I think if you focus on one area such as DC we won't shut everyone down but we can send a strong message and the only violence that might happen is people in DC flipping out about not having goods and then it will be the government and the red cross that will have to figure out how to solve that problem.

Something like that would be good but they would still get the goods cause all the bigger companies would get the work and as most people know swift dont need anymore trucks on the road!!!!

This about this!

Just look at how the Saudis are starting to get a little nervous just with folks slowing down, not driving when they don't have to, combining trips, etc. Not to mention what is going on in Europe! And isn't it interesting that the US news is not covering any of the strikes of gasoline in Europe? Even a few day strike by all would send a huge message. In the meantime, this country better start drilling and get over those tree-huggers! Maybe we should email O'Reilly on Fox News about the lack of coverage of the European strikes!

the idea of a strike is great, however the execution of it leaves alot to be desired.the reason to strike is NOT FUEL PRICES!!! it is FREIGHT RATES!!!.
here is part of the problem-we have SO MANY of the "border brothers" driving trucks that would use a strike to strengthen their position in the industry(not participating).the government would open the borders in a matter of seconds to get the Mexican trucks to haul the loads before letting the nation get "crippled" by a strike.the only thing an O/O can do is leave the cheap loads on the dock to be hauled by the Swifts,Hunts,Schneiders and such who will lose money on the load.broker loads can be negotiated to your price if nobody accepts the load, some of the big guys are hurting and having to make cutbacks to continue running the cheap stuff, they can't do it as easily anymore.

Strike???

Well the price of fuel would come down if we could change the demand for fuels. If every trucker O/O and company trucks could stop buying fuel for a couple of days at the same time a couple times a month it would lower the demand which would start to bring prices down. The same thing would work for gas as well. The only problem with this is to get everyone to agree to do this. Everyone in this country is only worried about one thing. Them selves only.
Now if you could stop the flow of fuel getting to the stations then you would stop everyone from driving. Planes would stop flighing, everything would stop in about 3 days. This would not only make a statement but it would also create a surplus in fuel which would drop the price of fuel.
The main problem with all of this is that no one is united in this country. The words United We Stand are only words. It should be Divided We Stand. That would be more to what it is in the United States.

Well in that case you would need all fuel transport to stop and all gas stations to stop.
about the best way to get higher freight $ is to strike against the brokers not anyone else.

I'm not a member of any union, so not sure how I could "strike".

Is there a truckers union that I don't know about? I am a very proud member of OOIDA, but they are not a union.

Has a union been started via this forum or something?

A Strike

Yes I know just what you are saying. There are a couple of good brokers out there. My wife is one of the good ones. She proves the rates to the trucker and does not scim off it before she proves it. Nor does she touch any of the F/C.
As far as a union goes why would anyone want a union. They are only around to line their pockets and screw everyone else. Unions had their time but that time has long past.
