I literally passed this moments after it happened. Not an image I will get out of my mind any time soon.

It was terrible that a trainer was sleeping while a driver was driving, but they have to be allowed to "drive" sometime. I mean..we all had our first times driving alone. He was clearly not ready. ...and at the same time, the FCC did rear-end the CRST while another passed safely. I'm thinking the FCC was tired. But that still doesn't make it all good. I feel for the family.
-
Prayers for the victim and family. Horrible thing. CRST wouldn't allow troopers to read the box? Wow.
-
My deepest sympathies to this man's family and friends!
What an inexcusable tragedy!
The so-called "trainer" should be brought up on charges. I believe the military has a term for his actions, we would call this "dereliction of duty"! He should have been wide awake and this tragedy would never have happened!
Furthermore I believe CRST needs a great big anal probe as do many other companies.
The companies that PAY BY THE MILE, enable and reward this routine dereliction of duty by paying the "trainer" for the student's miles. The student becomes nothing more than a second logbook and no "training" is taking place. You want to know why the goobermint and the public sees us as "unskilled labor", why we are viewed as dangerous, why so many many new drivers come out of "training" completely unprepared and unable to drive or preplan???
It starts and stops with the corporate greed! It condones people to take shortcuts on safety, take advantage of students/new drivers, and rewards "drivers" for bending/breaking the rules.
UNTIL PAY PER MILE IS OUTLAWED, TRAGEDIES LIKE THIS ONE, AND WORSE, WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN!!!
Doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results is insane!
This entire pay per mile paradigm has to go away. There is no longer a valid reason for it's existence. With all of the available technology today, We are not unsupervised workers any more. That was the reason for pay per mile. When was the last time you felt "unsupervised" while driving a truck?
Anyway, sorry for the long rant! It's just that these types of tragedies really bother me because they are needless.lostNfound, joey83854, JimDriv3r and 6 others Thank this. -
Well, this explains why it was closed, but it doesn't explain why everytime I called 511 the message said it was closed due to winter weather conditions.
If CRST had his hazards on (which a witness said he did) why didn't FCC realize he was going slow? Flashers are real obvious at night.simplyred1962 and LandShark Thank this. -
It states that the Wyoming highway patrol seized & impounded the truck & trailer because crst refused to let the hwy patrol look at the black box info. If this is a blatant disreguard for authority I don't what is! Crst is jus trying to attempt to cover up what there driver did but it won't work! The hwy patrol is now getting a court order to look at black box.
