3 killed in GA , pulled out in front of a logging truck

    Taken from the Augusta Chronicle:

Three people were killed this afternoon in a traffic accident on Mike Padgett Highway near International Paper.
Richmond County Coroner Gover Tuten named Barney Joe McCombs, 50, and Margot Helen Clark, 31, and Thomas E. Heverly, 51, all of Hephzibah, as the deceased.
Richmond County Sheriff's Capt. Scott Gay said the three were in a 1997 green Oldsmobile Achieva that attempted to turn onto Mike Padgett Highway from Southern Glassine Road. The vehicle turned into the path of a logging tractor trailer at 11:53 a.m. When police arrived on the scene, the two front seat passengers were pronounced dead.
Police said a third male backseat passenger was air-lifted to Medical College of Georgia Hospital with serious injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said the tractor trailer is based out of Sandersville, Ga. The Richmond County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Motor Carrier Compliance Division are currently investigating the accident.

Jessy McCombs described his father as a "good faithful man" and "hardworking."
He woke up this afternoon to find his father missing, then got a call from his friends about the accident.
McCombs said his father wasn't currently employed, but had worked previously at Plant Vogtle and Procter and Gamble. He was also in school learning how to weld, McCombs said.
In his spare time, the elder McCombs enjoyed fishing and teaching his son how to restore a late '60s model Chevy Nova.

A similar accident (?) happened not far from where I live in the Carolinas. A logging truck with numerous mechanical 'issues' blew through a red light, hitting a minivan driven by a woman - she died at the scene. Local jury absolved the driver and trucking company of fault despite numerous tickets written at the scene by police and state D.O.T.

The jury stated the woman should have looked before proceeding through the intersection....

Never proceed on a green lite without looking to make sure somebody isn't going to blow the red lite.

whether you check the intersection or not for which you should, if another person runs the red light they are at fault or least you would think they would be.
