They're sure going over everything with a fine tooth comb aren't they.Had this happened to a person that wasn't a celebrity they would have already put it to rest for now and get back on the case later on.

Not really. Number one it's New Jersey. They take accidents seriously. Number 2 it's a truck accident. There were several cars and THE safest trucking outfit in ALL of America. Walmart tops everyone. They've earned that spot with their rigid policies. I'm not a Walmart fan, not at all, but the truth is, Walmart is the safest.

What at sucks is this casts a bad light on trucking (again) and a bad light on Walmart (I would be ok with this, except) Walmart has "safe trucking" down to a science. This is on the driver, and even I, in all my Walmart hating glory would be disingenuous to point any fingers at Walmart.

Yes--wreck was at 71--Exit8a is 73--service plaza just past--bout 75 or so--and then depending WHERE in Perth Amboy--I still think he could of made it--and why he WAS dispatched there--looking at time of day--and mileage from last stop--But before speculating I would have to KNOW WHERE he was actually going--PERTH AMBOY nowadays is one of those convaluted addresses--like WOODBRDIGE(for ex)that can be 20miles one way or the other--I know it is really at the end of 440 before you go over into Staten island--but for example--1/2 the New Whse of Exit 12--have Perth Amboy Adresses--along with-Avenel--Woodbridge--among others--LOL--and if he was going up there--there is a second service plaza available to him--just shy of ex12

I use to think Walmart was the safest too but after this accident and a Walmart getting hit by a train here months ago im starting to think they're getting like every other company..Is Walmart still real picky on their hireing ?

And that's all you've seen in many years. Those were drivers who caused those. Not Walmart. I feel dirty sticking up for Walmart. I'm going to take a shower now.

While I am sure they are up there--and Im not in the mood to go surfin(though I am SURE someone will-thanx in advance)
Safety at that level is typically measured in miles to accident/incident ratio vs miles traveled....
So I am sure unless something drastic has changed--Wal-Mart is probably not even in the top 10(just due to ratio listing)Those tops spots have been historically held ny the Big Freight companies--ie YRC-etc...and typically since it includes ALL VEHICLES--UPS(pkg)typically leads the way--just due to the unholy amount of miles traveled per day overall....
Course it is this SAME goobermental logic and recordings--that make some of the MEGA'S look so much better on paper
    Go Figure......
And while I am sure--once it gets to litigation--Wal-Mart will be sending in their BEST Spin Doc's w/all kind of tales of Billions and Billions served w/out incident--LOL
But just cuz I haven't mentioned it in a few days--We STILL have MALWART to thank for all the new HOS nonsence--it STILL was one of their SUPER SAFE drivers--that feel asleep in Maine--and killed those kidsand started this whole mess.....just like to keep that fresh:biggrin_25525:

I have to agree with Pattyj... and from what I see with mh own eyes out on the road... I have see a few walmart drivers being stupid out there... had one the other day who was right on my ###... it was insane how close he was folling me... sometimes if someone is too close I will tap my brakes to get them to back off.. but he was so close I felt that if I had tapped my brakes ne would rear end me... had another just last week wait till the last minute to get over in the left lane for a construction zone.. there had been sign after sign saying the right lane was closed ahead.. all other trucks and cars got over and then this walmart truck comes flying up the right lane then push himself in at the last minute... made a car and another semi go onto the left shoulder...

I know my dispatcher has dispatched a load to me that I cant make without being up against the clock and needing to push it... it is my responsibility as a driver to inform them that I cant make it and will have to pull over for reset...

Your anecdotal opinion does not translate into fact. Walmart Transportation has a fatality involvement rate, without determination of fault included, of one fatality per 83.5 million miles traveled. Feel free to name all the carriers that exceed them, which can be counted on one hand. Combine this with their accidents per million miles rate and CSA score and they are the safest carrier overall. The government is using this accident from NJ as justification for more regulations on the basis that if the safest carrier can have this type of accident, then more regulation is needed. This accident in NJ or the one from Maine in October 1993 are not the root cause for more regulation, just the excuse.

Yes but what you were saying before was conjecture. Now there's proof. That is what many of us have been waiting for. :biggrin_25525:

With less than 1/2 hour left on his 14, I can't think of one reason why the driver should not have pulled into the nearest Walmart and taken his reset.

    That was mistake 1.

Mistake 2 was speeding through a construction zone.

Mistake 3 was not using the Smith System.

    I need not go on...
