Throw on a long hair dirty blonde wig and a driver would fit right in there.. well as long he/she was clean

It's not that bad, no sitting at a dock waiting to be loaded for 10 hours after you appointment. Yes they run at night, but that's part of the deal.

Yes, you load out after the show, the driver's call the pack of the trailer, a lot of them take care in it as they are responsible and have to make sure it's secured as to not damage the gear. Usually there's food for them at load-out, they run to the next show. On bigger tours, your night to night drive is on average around 250 miles. Because, say the show ends at 10 p.m. , they are done loading out by 2 a.m., load- in in the next city may start at 7-8 a.m.

The good companies won't hire anyone with less than two years experience.

Victor, how long were you in the entertainment business, I was in it 10 years, did everything from 1 bus, 1 truck tours to 18 trucks and 35 bus tours.

Ok so how does anyone "jackknife" on a dry or even rain soaked road? We're in the month of August, no snow or ice at this time so how does this happen? Darn cars and trucks just keep falling off the road I guess.

SHO-TYME, great info you provided once off your high horse! My entertainment trucking = 0. Personally, drove nights for 10 months for a USPS contractor. Never caught up on my sleep. I wouldn't like entertainment driving. At night I'm asleep unless there's a really good reason.

As fuzzymateo points out, this truck-involved fatality also involves a jackknife when you would not expect. Could very well mean rookie driver...

Demand for drivers right now has a lot of companies that 'require' two years fudging, looking for ways around with their insurers. My own company (that has a 'firm' 2-year requirement), hired two out of same CR CDL class, made one who previously had a CDL the trainer, and put both out on a truck!

Sheesh! Nothing bad's happened so far except a few screw ups and not all their fault. But that's the pressure companies are under looking to hire on new drivers right now. Could well be the case here, too, but with tragic outcome.

Back before interstates the band packed their own gear in cars or if they were making enough money they had a bus. A band member drove the bus. The roads were two lane. If you were hungry you'd be lucky to find you some hard boiled eggs and crackers. If you had friends in certain towns you'd stay at their home.

I was lucky enough to have some old music performers as neighbors when I first moved to TN. I loved to listen to the stories. I sure miss them guys.

There are still DIY bands today. Usually the better ones.

Yeh Joe but I'm talking the biggest names in the biz back then. You'd do 15 min live radio gig at 7:00 am and then drive all day to a dance in the evening. drive all night back to do the morning radio spot again unless the radio station was good enough to record on acetate a few spots in a row.

Just a side note if you like rockabilly stuff check Deke Dickerson's Youtube page. he makes some multi-part videos of his yearly tours across the country and his sense of humor just cracks me up. If a rockabilly bass playing gorilla named Cialis sounds intriguing go for it.

I'm a metal fan but will certainly check it out. I like different stuff, some rockabilly is pretty good.
