MOUNT CARBON, W.Va. (AP) Fires burned for nearly nine hours after a train carrying more than 100 tankers of crude oil derailed in a snowstorm in West Virginia, plunging at least one tanker into a river while sending a fireball into the sky, authorities and residents say.
Officials evacuated hundreds of families and shut down two water treatment plants threatened by oil seeping into the river following the Monday afternoon derailment. A state public safety division spokesman, Lawrence Messina, said fire crews decided to let the tanks burn themselves out.

Hi GtO, I saw that on Google News today. With all the craziness of oil prices lately, hmm, I wonder. ( but I'm the skeptical type) I also saw a truck crash in England that killed 4 people including a cute 4 year old girl, but was too upsetting to post it. ( maybe because they had a picture of the little girl)

Having dealt with these trains since they started coming into the US, I can tell you to expect a lot more of these wrecks. What kills me is the talking heads who keep dwelling on these "newer" style cars with the bulkheads for protection. These do nothing in a wreck. These class 1s talk a good game when it comes to safety but cut every corner they can when it comes to spending money anymore on infrastructure even when someone else is paying for it which is usually the case. Wish we could beg for handouts from the state and walk away with a check every year.

"One of the Koch brothers was seen yesterday walking away from the site where the derail occurred".
That's what you will be hearing on the CB in the days to come. -
Was another 100 car oil train that derailed and had a fire in Northern Ontario as well
