I went through there eastbound right before this happened. It was plenty foggy and icy. I was doing 35 most times. Did not get better until just outside Cheyenne.

In all fairness to the people involved in the wreck, there are probably at least some that saw the wreck, carefully came to a complete stop well short of the pileup, then some yahoo not paying attention came in behind and slammed into that same driver that did everything right. Technically that driver did everything by the book but still got wrecked.

if this was a one time thing then MAYBE I would consider this. Even then it's hard for me to believe that this nothing more than poor driving

I'm not buying the news media argument either. Regardless of how "slow" news travelled 5,10 or 20 years ago....40 trucks piling up was a story.

Drivers might not need a cb radio but I feel they are a valuable asset for drivers. I've been off the road 6 yrs, so I dont know firsthand how bad the bs on the cb is but I kept mine on and if there was bs on it I'd squelch it out. Generally your out of radio range of the bs in a few minutes.

I felt very uncomfortable driving w/out my cb, I felt like I was missing some information. Mine saved me from being caught in a construction or accident backup too many times to count. I'd hear of a backup ahead, hit a off ramp, check the atlas for a way around it & keep on truckin.

I agree a drivers 1st tool is being alert & watching the road ahead but sometimes there is a crest of a hill or curve you cannot see around so you dont know about the problem until its too late. Yes we should slow down when there isnt sufficient sight distance ahead. How many drivers actually slow down for every hill crests or curves? I didnt always unless there was inclement weather then I made #### sure to have sufficent sight distance and appropriate speed.

I drove 20 winters in 48 states without a crash & #### few close calls, the close calls were always initiated by a nearby vehicle screwing up. I feel sick in my stomach when I watch these videos of truck after truck after truck piling into an accident site or traffic backup. This seldom happened in the days when cb use was prevalent. It goes back to what my 1st trainer told me, "A key part of successful trucking is communication communication communication". Communicate with dispatch, shippers, receivers, & your fellow drivers it makes the job much easier.

I came through east bound just after it started happening.

Half a dozen rigs on the road. Quite a few stopped back a ways. Folks checking on other folks.

All I could think was "this is going to get way worse" As I watched others pushing fast wast bound. No responses or thanks on " Heads up" calls on the C.B.

Was glad they had the road closed @ Laramie. Wreck was about the 293

It was a story. That doesn't mean everyone heard about it. A 40 car pileup in Omaha? People in Nebraska would hear about it, the states that touched it would. But further down the road, there were other stories that took up the time, closer to home. You couldn't just drag and drop pictures into emails even 15-20 years ago.

I'm not saying that there isn't blame to be had, but it -was- an accident. You can do everything right and still have an accident. If at least 10 of those vehicles involved didn't come to a safe stop and get rear ended I would be surely surprised.

I'm not going to try to defend anything else I say, if the drivers on this board are so engrossed in the fact that there was X motor carrier involved in Y accident, and having a good chuckle about it I really don't want any part in it. I just pray that one of their family members never gets involved in anything like this, and they have to sit and listen to someone have a laugh because "Swifty is at it again, or FedWrex proving true."
