I work for a local bus company and the log lady calls me into the office two weeks after I started and tells me that I can not do any 34 restarts on my logs. First off I don't even know whay they run logs when all driving is with 20 miles of the shop. Anyone else work for a company with such a stupid policy? I mean the restart is 100% legal so why not use? Instead they make you constantly add up your hours for the last 7 and 8 days.
No 34 hour restart due to company policy?

What hours total per day are you running? By law, you have to hit 70 hours per week to need a 34. If they are only tunning you 8 hours a day and are payiing you overtime I really think you shouldnt be complaining. Heck I would work for them. 20 mile route? Home every night / day? Pffft you have it easy. Just remember, plenty of others out there whom would love to pay their bills and keep their homes because you feel ungrateful to have work.
Happily my home is all paid for, no mortgage here thank the good Lord. -
Log rules for buses are different than trucks. I thik they are still on the 10 hour driving rule. Better check it out.

I am reading the FMCS site and it says clear like day "logbook not required if you stay within a 100 mile air radious of the home terminal." I operated well within 100 mile radious. This is regulation # 395.1(e) (1) When I ran OTR I took a 34 whenever I could whether I hit 70 or not, a DOT official never had a problem with it.
That is the problem, they don't pay me enough to pay my bills, I'm sorry but 12 bucks an hour nowadays isn't going to cut it. I was making $19 driving a truck locally until the company folded. Plus now they lost some routes last week and moved me from the transit division to driving a little 12 passenger shuttle around a hospital for 4 or 5 hours a day.
The kicker is this was a union job and they kept some shmuck who was hired ONE day after me on the transit schedule but took me off. Remember this was a union gig so senority is averything. I will investigate the matter Monday because maybe he was just filling in for someone. If not I'm contacting a Union rep. -
Not beating anyone up here, just an opportunity to vent a moment about my biggest pet peeve. Everyone says I was making x and got laid off I cant make it on less. Well the company obviously couldnt make it paying you x. I am a company driver, but have been on both sides of the coin. People if the company is paying you well and the finances of the company are managed you are ok, but it doesnt matter what they are paying you if it folds up. When you are looking at someone making more money than you, look at the financial stability of both companies before thinking they are really making more money.

With only working 8 hours a day, why would you need to take a restart?

Not exactly...If you only work 20 hour or 2 hours and are then off for 34, You will be able to start again with 70 just as you do if you work 70 and then take a 34. The number of hours worked before you take the 34 is not relevant.Owner's Operator and otherhalftw Thank this. -
