Can anyone help me out?
I regularly take my 102" x 48' trailer through Gettysburg on Route 30. I know that this route is restricted to 53 footers, but I was under the impression that 48s were okay.
Driving through today I *THOUGHT* I saw the sign that said "Prohibited: 102" twins, 102" trailers over 28 1/2 ft"
Can anyone tell me if this is correct? Is a 48' allowed through Gettysburg or not?
Thanks.

According to the Penn DOT, publication 411, 48' X 102" is legal in Gettysburg.
ftp://ftp.dot.state.pa.us/public/PubsForms/Publications/PUB 411.pdfLordNorth Thanks this. -
Wondering if maybe I read the sign wrong today, or have been for quite a while. -
Hmmm, thanks. That is what I am looking for.. Kind of confusing though.
It looks like going through G-Burg on Rte 30 and 116 that some places are 2A (which is okay), some places are 6 (which is okay), and some are 8 (SIGNED PROHIBITED ROUTES Signs prohibit 102 wide - 53, 48 and twin trailers) But when I look on page 8 it says in brackets [48' trailers only permitted]
Of course, the publication says that local signage takes priorty over the publication... which means "we might be wrong oh well...."
Guess it is worth risking again. I will print a copy of this to take along just in case. Of course the signs are posted where you have already committed, wouldn't make sense to post the sign far enough in advance that you would have time to detour if you need to. At least if I get stopped I can make the argument that I was TRYING to do it legally.
Thanks for the link!

That's like US 1 from Baltimore to the Pa line. No 53', and no 102" of any legnth, and no signs at all, unless they put some up. You find out when you are pulled behind the fancy scalehouse for your very large ticket.

Since I call there home, yes those signs say nothing over 28 feet can be 102's. So you legally cannot run a 53 or 48 102" on Rt 30 or PA 116 thru town, but it is seldom enforced. And what really gets my goat is that they route all of the humongus over size stuff thru there! Can't for the life of me comprehend that.
If you are coming north up I-81, I get off at Greencastle, run 16 over thru Emmitsburg MD(watch the locals in town) and then up US15 to 30 to go east.HopeOverMope and LordNorth Thank this. -
I got an overwidth ticket on 30 there somewhere between I 76 and 522, or Mcconnelsburg last year. The sign came up pretty quick and I saw the 102" but didn't get the rest. It is not shown as restricted in Rand Mcnally Atlas. It is here http://www.aitaonline.com/Info/Road/Restricted%20Routes.html#Pennsylvania Restricted Routes

Do you know if this is a recent change, or has it always been this way? I always (until yesterday) thought only 53' were restricted and the DOT PUB that Stranger sent me agrees.
I run a driving school, and while I like going through Spring Grove, Hanover and then through G-Burg on 116 because of the circles and tight right-hand turns, I certainly don't have to go through to get where I am going. (Guess I am a great example of those "unecessary trucks" running through town...)
Suppose I will cross this one off of my list of courses to run.
Definitely appreciate everyones help! -
The signs have been up for at least the last 10 years or so, but they are all in locations that they are easy to miss seeing.
