To All IMTA Members/ Stakeholders
Immediate Action is Needed!
- As you know, the proposed changes in the Hours of Service (HOS) regulations would have a significant impact on our industry. Your cost would increase and your ability to provide the service your customers expect would be greatly challenged.
FIRST ACTION NEEDED
SECOND ACTION NEEDED
- · We need to encourage everyone affected by the proposal to go to www.safedriverhours.com and post comments which explains how he/she will be negatively impacted by the proposed language. Company owners, staff, drivers, tow truck operators, etc.-- EVERYONE needs to engage and help to drive this to a favorable outcome.
· So far, across the entire country, only 1,400 comments have been posted to the site...We should have more than 1,400 comments from right here in Indiana.
· There are between 300,000 and 400,000 trucking companies registered in the United States. 1,400 comments does not present the compelling argument we need in order to convince Secretary of Transportation LaHood that he needs to reconsider how the industry should be regulated. Ask everyone to post comments ASAP.
- · Another initiative being driven by the American Trucking Associations (ATA) is a Dear Colleague letter. A copy of that letter is attached. Congressman Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) are circulating the letter and asking for a signature of support from each of their House and Senate colleagues. Again, we can help ourselves by contacting our Senators and House members to ask them to sign on to the Dear Colleague letter which will be sent to Secretary LaHood.
· Use www.ContactingTheCongress.org to determine which MOC you need to contact. Click on your state for a complete list. If you dont know which Member represents you and/or your business simply enter your address information to find your Members. A phone call to your Members back home district office will serve as a powerful statement regarding the importance of this issue. You may even want to fax or email a copy of the attached letter to your Members office. Your MOC most likely does not even know about the HOS issue.
· The IMTA would appreciate any feedback you receive regarding your members response to your request. Your information will help us determine their position (for or against) on the issue and allow us to better direct future resources. Please send follow-up to felicia.kozar@imtaonline.net
Thanks in advance for your willingness to help manage this very important issue.
