I was told by my brother a trucker for a few decades that I they can't go back past 10 years on a driving record because it doesn't show up to the insurance companies. Is this true? I have had 3 DUI'S in my past; but that has been 16 years ago and so far when I tell any trucking company this, they say to me, Sorry, you can't have more then 2 in a lifetime. Those DUI'S were a long time ago and since than I don't drink and drive. I want to become a trucker. I been trying to become one since 2001 and have had no luck. Does anyone know of any trucking companies that won't lord my past over my head so I can become a long haul trucker? I made many mistakes many years ago and I sure wish I could get a break for once. I grew up a lot from over 16 years ago.
I got three dui's on my record over 16 years ago

They go back 10 years on your work history and 3 years on your driving record.
DUI, drug convictions and felonies fall into another category and depends on the company and their insurance company who calls the shots. Some will go 3 years, some 7, some your lifetime. It won't show up on your driving record but it will show up on a background records check. We all make mistakes and grow up. But some of them skeletons you can't get rid of. 3 strikes says you're a repeat offender and a high risk to them. What would of helped you is if you showed some kind of completion of a rehab program. You just have to try and keep trying. Somebody might give you a shot. There's people with worse records than that driving. -
you got the "lifetime" straight from a horses mouth, and you still want to believe your brother..???
keep trying, but it will be tough. personally i hope you did learn and grow since then. but to the trucking companies that have turned you down thus far..and many more in your future...???
THEY DON'T CARE. -
DUI's are treated differently than any traffic ticket. If they exist, they will find them. Even two will keep a person out of most companies.

and any no matter how long ago will keep you from driving into Canada, which may be an important factor for some carriers.

As long as you have not applied for your CDL yet, see about expungement. My husband was able to get rid of one of his that was that old. California allows for possible expungement after 13 years.

And pull a copy of your MVR, and criminal background !!

All carriers are required to get a 10 year work history on all drivers and check at least the last 3 years. It is up to the company as to whether they will go back further than that with their checks. Some pull a complete criminal and background check, others don't. It is becoming more commonplace for employers to more thoroughly check backgrounds of potential employees.
