to flag or not to flag

    ok--where would i find any type of reg that would describe when you can flag or it has to be a change from driving to on duty not driving

    for instance-fueling a reefer--if it takes less than 7 minutes i was always taught that you can just flag it rather than showing a full 15 minutes of on duty not driving---thanx for the help

    Simple answer, grid is in 15 minute increments, right ? Under 15, flag it.

    thanx guys--that is what i have always done--but the safety guy is tweaking and bouncing off the walls about it--and wrote me up a letter with the word FALSIFICATION in it---which really pissed me off--i looked thru the sight last night but couldnt find it--i just dont think sqirting 15 gallons into reefer before you drop it really requires 15 minutes-----since it is company policy i dont mind doing it--but the F word really pissed meoff----(not to say i dont do it,just dont accuse me of it)

    actually i was always taught 7 minutes is the cut off--over 7 log it--under flag it

    Anything under 15 minutes I flag and note "chain check 6 min" have never had any issues.

    You did exactly right.

    ANY change of duty status MUST be shown in the log, showing city and state location.

    If it is less than 15 minutes, you enter the number of minutes in the remarks with the city and state.

    That is the proper way to FLAG a stop less than 15 minutes.

    ok i totally agree with everyones answe as that is how i was taught originally

    ok how about for pre and post trips??------seems in canada it is to do a 15 minute pre trip and flag the post trip--in us it seems i was flagging the pre trip and doing a 15 post trip---now mr safety wants a 15 minute pre and a 15 post trip---i kinda think if it breaks in between my POST trip and PRE trip---i will be sleeping and dont care---that is why a 15 pre trip would be best

    and also have to put 15 on duty for a drop and hook
    as i said before---i dont mind doing it the the company wants it---but i kinda think it is a bit overkill and backasswards

    In Canada it is common to combine the pre-trip and the daily inspection report (required once every 24 hours) at one time. There is no requirement for a post-trip inspection. In the U.S. the daily inspection report is mandated as a post-trip function. In the U.S., while a pre-trip inspection is obviously necessary to satisfy the requirements of 396.13, there is no time requirement. There isn't any real content requirement either beyond a listing of the systems/components to be checked to ensure they are in proper order. I think most companies simply institute policies such as you have mentioned in the hopes of covering their collective behinds.

    i think you hit the nail on the head with that one lost---iirc when i worked for the mennonite mafia from sk---if we fueled less than a 1/2 tank we flagged it--over the half we put down 15 minutes
