myself and at least one other on a discussion I have going have obtained CDL but now find we really should have done the work to get HAZMAT -> do I need to re-take to obtain HAZMAT endorsement?.....

    links I have so far:
    www.txdps.state.tx.us/internetforms/Forms/CDL-6.pdf
    www.txdps.state.tx.us/driverlicense/hme.htm
    www.txdps.state.tx.us/DriverLicense/commerciallicense.htm

    dps site states:

    ...
Pass the required written test for type of license you desire, including endorsements, A & B rules test (written), and skill tests in the appropriate vehicle (driving).
Complete the Hazardous Material Endorsement Procedures.

so it would appear getting the license first is procedure thus the fact that we already have the license does not make additional prior work needful

i'm not gonna read the links. but i'll tell you how it stands now.

first thing is to pay $100 or whatever the rate is now. and have your fingerprints submitted to TSA. wait 30 days for the letter to say your clear. then you take that letter to the dmv along with your birthcertificate and medical long form and medical card so that they can input that information with your driver license if they don't have your medical linked yet. if they do then all you need is just the letter and birth certificate.

grab a book and find a chair to read the test. and read and read. pay the fee and take the test. it's not an easy test. chances are high you'll fail it the first time. unless your einstein.

i did mine two years ago. my license was renewed 2 months ago where i had to take the test AGAIN.

renewing the endorsement seems to be a different procedure for each state. but it do't matter if you've had the endorsement all your life. everyone has to submit fingerprints to TSA. and take the test. once you've got it. it's just a matter of taking the test.

what laws might be imposed in the future though might change the game again. when it was originally implemented. the talk was that hazmat was only good for 2 years. dmv didn't say anything to me. so hopefully i'm good untill i have to renew in 5 years.

this is extremely helpful as I can begin work now within minutes of posting ~ I make einstein look like eye-in-stein - head fallen into beer glass & am some kind of brainic like it takes a 180+ intelligence score to even grasp what I am saying, let alone respond ..... I used to engage super-brainiacs on you tube and went through almost a dozen of them, only one person who paints thunderbirds on trans-am hoods in Illinois was able to stay with me in ten kilobyte pm's .....

I have DOT medical long-form in hand but do not think dps put it in records, it is a major waste of an entire day to go to the local DPS office & in fact I probably will drive 30 something miles to the next county where the dps office sorta has it together compared to the other locations I have been at ~ I have contacts in Austin who do major legal work and can ask about how to attempt to find a better (efficient) way of submitting forms & attest ....

I had a full set of prints recorded at TX/DPS for another procedure, seems to me having to go to the place DPS states ....

texas dps fingerprint procedure -> in my world such day-wasters elicit bad-opinions though only an opinion from the bench of law is of consequence

    ^^- what book?--^^

TSA = Transportation Security Administration?..... I am there digging but all responses are links to luggage & air-travel issues, where is / are the trucker regulations?.....

every dmv should have books sitting on the counter. or somewhere floating around.

you have to study the hazmat portion of the commercial handbook.

    Here in WI....

You take the Hazmat test and pay the fee. You are given a license good for a few months.
    I think its like 90days.

Then and only then can you schedule a fingerprint visit. You must wait 24hrs after passing the written exam before scheduling.
You go online, pay the $125 or whatever and then arrive at the place to get fingerprinted.

Then, if all goes well...in a few weeks your new license arrives.

WI is 8yrs for a CDL. The Hazmat is renewed every 4yrs. Another written and another fingerprint.
Having a TWIC doesn't seem to matter much. I did get a discounted TWIC due to having paid the Hazmat fingerprint
fee, but it's not the other way around.

Many states have their CDL manual online.

my question is { other than all the details and the study } I already have Tx Class-A with tanker & triples but did not get the HAZMAT at the time of applying ~ I really hope I do not have to re-do the entire "obtain license" procedure ...

L-1 Solutions was selected as the vendor to implement the Fingerprint Applicant Services of Texas (FAST)

TY - L1 "website" states every request for fingerprinting results in a re-walk of the entire fee & printing,....hopefully this state ... uh, who does the T.W.I.C.?......

edit: an assistant printed the Texas CDL Study Manual for me, I will be finding it in the next few hours or at least by morning

Just go in and ADD your Hazmat...
Make sure that when you do, none of your other endorsements (especially M if you have it)
    dont fall off!

We had a guy ABCDM XNT that lost his M when he renewed and they made him take the road test over!

All you will have to do is hazmat test and fingerprinting. All other endorsements will stay. Your hazmat endorsement will expire the same time as your license. You will have to repeat the process every 5 years... fingerprint, background, hazmat test. Pain in the booty
