You know I disagree with you on some points, right? Lol. But you're right. Stoned isn't safe and to me it's just as bad as drunk. Drivers need to be responsible and not smoke or be around it.

It certainly "weeds" out a lot of driver wannabe's. And that's a good thing.

You are right. Some of the people on here scare me. I hate to think I have to share the road with some of them.

Well, with the election hardly in the can, the ATA got their little feet a paddling and decided to crank up the efforts to push for mandatory hair follicle testing trucking wide. And of course, what the ATA pushes, the TCA and ADSS are quick to jump on board with as well.

As has been stated, this whole thing is getting way out of control. You could have someone that was on vacation for 2 weeks in August, showing up positive on a hair test in October and it has not one thing to do with whether they are ever impaired behind the wheel. Now, considering they may have vacationed in a state that is basically "legalized" recreational use of the stuff, then I can see the lawyers warming up on that one. You were not in control or even near a commercial vehicle, you were in a "legal" state, it was done long before you returned to work, and you have been working since with no impairment. I can just see the 1-800 numbers for the law firm of Burn 'em and Run. And the carriers are screaming about litigation being used against them now. They ain't seen nothin' yet.

And the schizophrenic ATA is one for the books. They are harping about the new HOS regs going into force next July, but at the same time, they are screaming and hollering for more government regulatory control with this and a whole stack of other goodies. Kinda like the woman that complains that the couple's sex life if waning, but when the guy makes advances to counter that, the woman now has a headache.

I really think that George Orwell didn't foresee how true his book "1984" would become reality.

    So stay off the sidewalk!:biggrin_2559:

Many, (if not most) states prosecute DUI Drugs the same as they do DUI Alcohol. I has nothing to do with the legality of the drug itself. It has everything to do with being under the influence while driving.

A good example is that you can have a prescription for a pain killer from your doctor, and be perfectly legal in taking that pain killer. BUT if you are driving, and you are impaired by that pain killer, then you are DUI-Drugs.

DWI = Driving While Impaired. I would say that if you are hanging around the pot smokers you might be jeopardizing your career. I just won't be attending any parties in those states affected.

I've reached that age in my life, where some days, it might just be worth it to challenge something along the lines of what I stated. Someone is bound to challenge this, so it will be fun to watch the outcome.

It is against Federal Law in ALL states. State law never supersedes Federal Law. You can be busted in Washington the same as anywhere else. The Feds can shut down clinics anytime they want. As for CDL holders your not going to be able to smoke dope if our a driver because it will show in the hair test. Then Poof your unemployed.

Maybe the states should stand up to the Feds . That would be fun to watch!

my guess is, like alcohol, you wont be ###### NEARLY enough. fatality accident under the influence should buy you a one way ticket to never seeing the sun again as long as you live. vehicular manslaughter...what a joke. murder 1, plain and simple...you knew what you were doing when you put the keys in the ignition, and made a specific plan to completely disregard the lives of everyone around you. and in this case, thank god, cdl holders WILL be governed by federal law, and no one reading this is going to live to see the day when marijuana is legalized nationally. ironically, i fall on the side of legalization...but get in your vehicle and kill someone while under the influence of ANYTHING...legal or illegal...and then punishment cannot possibly be stringent enough.
