Its cheaper to have the chains than pay the tow bill from a chain-up area on any other road in the state because CSP has decided you've overstayed your 24-hour "welcome mat" since you can't proceed without the chains you decided you didn't need. Got the point yet???

yes, I know what you are saying, but that is a choice one makes. It is also a choice to drive around the Rockies, without knowing the weather.

The LAW only requires you carry chains at all times, between sept 1 and may 31, on I70 west of Denver.

the chain law on all the other highways do not appear out of nowhere, with no warning.

Tell that to the morons coming up here from places like Georgia, Floriduh, and the flip-flops 'n shorts crowd from LA... as in Los Angeles.

My chains stay on my truck year round. And they are certainly useful to me. Even one chain can mean the difference between a $600 tow bill and getting out myself. You're gonna run out here, you need chains. If you're not gonna chain, please, by all means, stay in the south or wherever you're from. We have work to do.

that is their inability to think for themselves... the law will never change that.

In 7 years of running OTR, much of it in the mountain west, I threw chains, never.... never missed a pickup or delivery either... but I also know the weather and when to run hard, and when to go a different route. I carried chains, but chains are to get me out of trouble, not into trouble.

And as far as those southern folks are concerned, even if they have the chains on board, they don't know how to put them on so that they stay on... and then they block the highway anyway....

One more thing to the non-chaining crowd. When you guys make our truckstops up here impossible to navigate, you're making our lives harder. Snoqualmie is one of the easiest passes to run, but Ellensburg and North Bend are in lock down mode because you're scared or lazy. Seriously, if you can't or won't chain, stay back east. Thank you.

your idea of MUST and my idea of MUST are 2 different ideas.

you roll into colorado. sign says trucks carry chains. sept.1 to may 31. it don't matter what road you roll into colorado on. there's your sign.

we al know you MUST be packing on the 70. but them signs that are posted at the stateline. says CARRY. that sounds to me like the entire state WANTS us to carry chains. NOT just becuase we're on the 70 and that we MUST.

BTW. the 70 isn't the highest peak in colorado. it's only 11,000 and 10,500. there's a mountain in the durango area that hits 14,000. a couple of others that hit 12,000. the 550 averages 9000 along the top.
