The 30-minute break does not do anything with the 14 hour rule. You have to take it by eight hours after logging on-duty. You cannot continue driving past 8 hours if you haven't taken the break. Take the break too early in your day and you will have to take another.

You should keep going round and round with your safety department until you get it.

Like is has been said before only an 8 hour break stops your 14. So your 14 keeps ticking down when doing your mandatory 30 min break. And yes you do have to take your 30 within 8 hrs of starting your clock..ideally between 5.5-8 hrs so you only have to take 1 break during the day. You can go round and round with your safety dept all you want but they did not make the rules/laws. No matter the company we are dealing with the rules.

Correction. 10 hr break restarts your clock. 8 hr stops/pauses your clock.

Also, the 30-minute rule is: you can't drive more than 8 hours past the time your last 30-minute break (Line 1 or Line 2) has ended. If you start up, go an hour, sit for 30 min, you can only go another 8hr until you have to take another 30min break. Try to schedule your break midway through the day (6-8hr into your shift) so that you don't have to do another one if you don't want to.

Hard to believe it's nine months later and there are still people who can't figure out the 30-minute break rule.

You cannot combine off duty and sleeper.
