Any thoughts on how a 2008 trailer with a 2008 TK unit & engine would not be CARB compliant currently? I'm posting this thread because I've run into a situation where a fleet selling off one of its trailers is telling me it's not CARB compliant.
Appreciate it.

Thanks Dryver.
I'm awaiting an answer to that. I'd like to know if the engine has been rebuilt or replaced? -
Model year of either vehicle is not the determining factor. It is the EPA year the engine and engine family that you have to go by. A vehicle might be titled as a 2008 but has a 2007 engine with no DPF filter, hence not compliant.
281ric Thanks this. -
Studebaker, it is a 2008 TK unit with a 2008 TK engine (which I verified thru TK per the s/n). Furthermore, the EPA sticker states a 2008 MY engine.
So all check-points indicate to me it's a CARB compliant unit. -
Ok I know their have been many changes since I have been off the road, but would the trailer only need to be CARB compliant if you were running CA ? I dont see where the big deal would be if you stayed out of CA

Northstarfire, I do run loads in & out of CA, so my equipment would need to be CARB compliant.

Go online and register it. If it is a 2008 motor it will be compliant through 2015. Doesn't cost anything to register the TRU.
-
Only 2010 or newer engines are truly CARB compliant. A 2008 IS currently CARB compliant by a 2008 only buys you some more time before you need to modify or dump.

OP was asking about a TRU, not a tractor.
