It doesn't matter we are commercial truck drivers our standards are higher. Why is when I'm at home my gf drives my car gets seat belt ticket only $25 I drive my car same cop gives me a seat belt ticket but fine is double or even highr. When I asked about it the answer we are professionals were supposed to know better. Got same ticket long time, dot even said with my pretrip I wouldn't have cought it. All in a days journey. Told were professionals but don't get paid or treated like one. Life sucks.

Missouri is notorious for finding things that will require a nearby shop to come out and fix. There are rumors that kickbacks are involved and this has been going on for decades. Some airlines you should catch on a pretrip and others are hidden on the inside of the frame. Let's face it unless you do a level 1 inspection every morning there will be things that can be found. One of the things I like about going from company driver to leased on to a company is that the truck gets inspected every 90 days for free by the company.

Part of the CSA program is to shift at least some of the responsibility for the equipment maintenance to the company. I've only been driving for 8 years, but they used to put all the blame on the driver, now the company gets dinged as well. I know the company I've been with used to delay getting minor things fixed, but now a trailer cluster light that isn't working gets us routed to the nearest repair shop.

"Professional" just means that is what you do for a living. There is no dollar amount tied to it.

How come the cops can type on laptops but we can't hold a cellphone up to our ears when we are driving? The world isn't fair, and it's even less fair to truckers.

I had something similar in Missouri and got it dismissed rather easily. Once you correct the issue either you or the company sends a compliance letter to the court with the proof that the problem has been corrected. I have had 3 tickets dismissed like that so far and without paying a fine

What about an electrical line. Mine has a crack in the outer casing.

Can I just tape it or should I replace it?

I would tape it until I could replace it. With the winter we have had, corrosion is going to be a beast and any exposed wire won't last long before it breaks, or shorts out. I think what gets lost in this whole thread is that if something is serious enough to put you out of service it is considered an issue that could cause an imminent danger, or break down. My earlier points had to do with Missouri's reputation and the fact that there are issues a driver won't typically find on a morning walk around pre-trip. I don't know about anyone else, but I want someone who knows what they are doing looking at my truck. If I have issues brewing I may not be crazy about the cost, but I want it fixed on my schedule so I don't have to pay the extra to have it fixed on someone else's.

    Big Don Thanks this.
