That's with the understanding that the officer actually looks at your elogs... most of these guys don't have a clue. The last level II I got... he didn't even look at it. Just asked me to note my hours on the 11, 14, and 70, and bring it back so he could put it in the inspection report.

I am thinking that the proposal to "improve" EOBRs/Elogs isn't there to improve anything but to add more or less a safeguard against competition within the little elog industry that seems to be tied up by Qaulcomm and a few other companies. With the advent of smart phone apps and other software that now meets the requirements, this will eliminate those apps and software packages and force everyone to use an "approved" product.

Guess you failed to read my previous post before you stated this. I PC'd home this weekend, like I do every weekend, I readied my truck for the next week, I greased the chassis, I washed the truck, and will go back to the trailer PC later and all of this is off duty on an Elog.

There is very little different from paper to an Elog other than not being able to play games with driving time. Off duty, On Duty, Off Duty Driving (PC), or sleeper time can all be edited by the driver, that is, if their carrier has that feature available.

The paranoia of some is really telling. I am so glad I have my paranoia gland under better control. It is a much better thing to keep one's wits about them and find solutions around a problem than worrying that the world is coming to an end.

actrually, cowpie, there is a big difference between paper and elog.

all that work you did on your truck. you wouldn't have to answer to on paper.

the paper don't make you do things you don't want. and it don't talk back to you.

i shouldn't have to claim personal conveyance becuase i want to take my truck to the wash, or change the oil, i shouldn't have to log in becuase i want to run the a/c.

a lot of things one can do to their truck without haveing to answer to the gooberment, on paper.

the gooberment wants to know immediately that you've fired up your engine. that box screams at you becuase if you haven't logged in. the second that engine fires up.

Uh....Per the proposal....Any time you fire up an engine...the Clock is supposed to be ticking....

I had some DOT try to tell me that we're supposed to log "On Duty" when say we're polishing our wheels...I told him good luck....My rig is parked behind a locked gate...And a 12' high wall...So how the Hell is he gonna know?

Not if you mute it, so what anyways you start it and it records that. If the truck didn't move go ahead and prove something. I got autotstart. Truck recharged itself. Whatever. Yeah it may come to a time when they can track all that, but we will probably all be dead. They want the deep pockets, just like IRS. The little guy getting $800 back and fudged a little has little chance of getting a audit over the corporation getting millions.
