The ONLY thing that changed as of May--is that the Medical Examiner you go to is approved and registered by FMCSA--everything else is the same FOR NOW---
and while Im at it--Does anyone else find it interesting that only the FMCSA reffers to a Dr. as a Medical Examiner--and everywhere else in the world the medical Examiner is a coroner? Hmmm

How would the carrier get their kickbacks if they let you come in with a third-party cert?

Medical examiners are doctors. They gots the edjamakashun and everyt'ing.

Although I think FMCSA is playing fast and loose with the term. I wasn't aware Chiropractors were legitimized to the point of being acceptable as ME's until last year.

Don't let your personal Medical Card expire. You will now lose your commercial driving privileges if you do. (At least in Michigan you will) That means taking the whole 160 hour course over again. The regulations are getting stricter and stricter by the week. You would be very smart to go take your own physical and make sure it's on file with your state. This will prevent any lapses in Medical Certs if changing jobs. There are companies out there that are voiding medical cards if you quit or are terminated if the company bore the expense of you getting it. Point of this type of action is beyond me. The Ann Arbor Transportation Authority is a Public Transit Agency that does this.

My doctor feels so special that he is now certified to do something he's been doing for years, he jumped the price $45.

That is incorrect. A 160 hour course isn't required in the first place.

CDL mills are a method to get your CDL, not the only method.

I'm with you on use of term. I'm not ready to be seen by what I think of as a Medical Examiner. (autopsy person)

My last physical, in January. i had gained a little weight, more than likely because I had quit smoking early last year. I mentioned to the doc how great it was I was able to quit smoking and almost had a year under my belt without lighting up, and that I was sleeping a whole lot better than I had experienced in years. All of that very true. Not even a question about that I had a borderline BMI weight and any sleep thing. He seemed just fine with the additional weight, and concurred probably due to quiting smoking. Approved me for another 2 years.
