Local news did a story on CDL masking and drivers having multiple licenses. Sounded to me like a news story right out of the 1980s.

I think the news reporter has been Bravo Sierra'ed by some state official high on crack on some problem from last century that has gone away 23 years ago.

Is this still possible? I realize with government workers the way they are, not every conviction makes it back to the home state but can you really get more than one CDL using the same ID?

It still happens in the Chicago area with the EE drivers. There's a lot of that going on there.

Not likely! Back in the day I had multiple licenses because insurance was so high where I lived. Current day for cdl drivers there is a national registry, where things come up than don't normally come up on a regular MVR. I had a moving violation I got in N.C. In 1988 and never paid it because it wasn't on my home state's mvr. In 2008 when I got my cdl they sent me back to N.C. to straighten it out. I had a clean license and no one ever saw it when running my mvr and doing background checks. N.C. was one of the last states to computerize their records. In this day and age some municipalities won't report to your home state, they do a quick money grab. The give tickets and don't report minor violations to your home state to entice you to pay faster. Lawyers also cut deals and everybody gets paid and your license doesn't take a hit. I do not see anybody getting away with multiple licenses without some type of identity theft or some other high tech scam.

Just something that you may have picked up on.
The interviewee is one who trains prosecutors on federal motor carrier laws and stated that theses drivers were driving "60,000" lb missiles hhhhmmmm "60,000 lb's.
I wonder if he also helped write the current HOS rules and regs since he is an expert on trucking.

I've seen a few news story where a DMV clerk on the take had been handing out CDLs w/o any tests or checks on the sly. But they got caught. I really don't see how it's happening w/o being an inside job. I do know that students getting their permits are finding out about old tickets in other states, nu-paid taxes and child support way more than they used too. I think someone just needed a story. Truckers are easy targets.

It's the same old same old everybody likes to use the trucking industry like a whipping boy. Big Govt, local Govt. the media. They pimp us to get what they can get , we keep the economy moving. They act like our pockets are full and always enforcing new rules with their hands out. They say you can't get blood from a stone, darned if they won't try!!! They sensationalize anything to do with trucking in order to get another payday. With all the four wheeled menaces out there you would think safety would be a concern across the board. Safety is not the main concern it's the almighty DOLLAR:biggrin_25510:
