that's bascially about the jist of it.
as a company driver, you really don't have any options. just plain ole per diem.
i don't know why so many people make a fuss. or why some will save their food receipts for the whole year. that's a lotta trash to pack around for the tax man. -
That's not really true. On top of the per diem, you can write off truck expenses (paper towels, windex, gloves, etc), water, ice, showers, any tolls your company doesn't cover, 70 to 80 % of phone bills/air card bills, and other things.
Wild Murphy Thanks this. -

That's what my accountant told me. Per diem is for food, and all the other stuff is truck expenses or other catagories. One deduction that I love, and is pecular to trucking (like the showers), is you can deduct your laundry expenses. Don't even need a receipt for that, just needs to be noted, cost, place, and date. Can't deduct the soap or bleach tho, since that "could" be used at the house.

Oh, and the percentage on your phone bills and air cards, depends on how much you use them for work. Buying a new computer, deduct a percentage of it, maps and trucking related books, deduct all of it. I'll look and see if I can find the list she gave me and post it on here.
She's a truck specific CPA and keeps up with the changing landscape. Anybody want to use her, send me a PM.
