Today i was listening to a rebroadcast of the Transportation Committee hearing this past July where they were talking about the HOS changes, number of accidents/deaths, and driver pay. Ferro said this was her last hearing. Claybrook was there for all her Safety associations. A TX DPS major, who happened to be associated with CVSA, a UPS driver trainer/union shop steward and a guy from ATA.
It was your standard dog and pony show. There was no middle ground. It was all basically anti driver. We are all driving asleep and cause lots of deaths.
But the one thing that might have been overlooked by most everyone was Claybrooks last remarks before the gavel dropped. She said the minimum liability($750,000) was not sufficient to cover the loses to all the dead peoples families grief. She suggested raising the minimum to $4-5 MILLION for liability.
How many small or one man operations could survive having to carry that kind of coverage?
Of course we are a long way from those changes, but that could be the next big push by these so called Safety groups.
How would it affect you? How deep are your pockets?

It would force many Independents out the door, which usually seems to be the case/intent with Big Government, Big Corporations.

John Claybrook has been a truck hater for over 20 years,,she has been with several different "highway safety" organizations and her main theme is to trash trucks and use scare tactics and lies to raise money so she can have a job,,I sure would like to see someone follow her for a week or two and I am sure that she is most likely one of the most dangerous automobile driver on the road,, Big Dog And Pony Show,
How about increasing auto insurance to $100K so when a 4 wheeler runs into a truck there is insurance money to repair the truckFoxcover Thanks this. -
Yep, these four wheelers cutting off a stretched pete that's worth more than there house.
-
I totally agree, its the liberal play book in action, create a problem that they have the " solution" for when I read your question my thinking was what's that going to do to pay scales , u think the company's will just absorb the additional costs of said insurance , highly unlikely , let's see , first it was auto ins.then health ins. So all they need to complete the trifecta is truck insurance , I made a statement to some friends a few weeks back like ," The person who in the name of "safety" makes unsubstantiated claims has a weak claim in the first place , reminds me of school age kid tactics

Lets start by raising the minimum liability insurance for non-commercial vehicles. Do you think the $20,000/$40,000 minimum coverage many cars are insured for, if even insured at all, covers the 28,000+ a year deaths on the roads that did not even involve a commercial vehicle? Of course not. That is why myself and many others carry a large amount of underinsured and UNINSURED motorist protection.
Claybrook, who is a long time truck hater and shill for the railroads, should also focus on increased liability on the part of the railroads for the numerous train derailments and other accidents, as well as poorly maintained crossings that have resulted in many deaths from trains striking vehicles. Claybrook is a has-been nobody old fart, but dangerous none the less because of the ignorant people who would even take a listen to her and her ilk. -
The guy from the ATA mentioned earlier in the hearing that many people were recommending 4+ million liability limits but that 99% of all wrecks caused by trucks (all 30% of truck involved wrecks) were covered by the current limits.
-
imagine if you were a trucker who fell into a coma in 2009, woke up today wanting to get ready to hit the road again..
-
-
Well, although I wasnt in a coma I can kind of relate to that going back into business this year. Would still rather go it on my own than work for half of the companies out there.
