Just got a call from a buddy that was stopped outside of Dallas and was put OOS for a bad tire and the cop would not give him the opportunity to fix it and insisted that the combo be compounded. The wrecker sevice than said they couldn't release the vehicle for 24 hours after paying $1,100 he still needed the tire changed.
Have anyone Heard of this sounds kinda fishy to me.
Can DOT Impound a truck when placed OOS?

never heard of that...i think he may be telling you a tail....but Florida pull me in once and threaten to impound the company truck for unpaid over weight tickets...

They wouldn't even let him call road service to have it fixed? Guess it would have been bad if it blew while the wrecker was under it too. Sounds like BS to me but who know anymore. Wrecker owner is probably the cops brother in law.

My thought was not state but city or crooked County deal where cash is kicked back to cop from tow after bill is paid, they will let them drive off after bill was paid not caring about safety just $.

i had always assumed that as i was being placed OOS, the truck and i were both being impounded for the specified time.I have been OOS a couple or three dozen times over the years for various trucking related thingamajiggs. it used to not mean squat other than a much needed break and the fine imposed-
