So I'm a new CDL Class A holder and I've gotten one DOT medical card that doesn't expire til next year in August. I was applying for Schneider and they wanted me to go through their DOT medical examiner and also do their drug testing. Well, the DOT doctor has disqualified me from getting my DOT medical card because I used to take Adderall and I haven't been on the medication since 2009-2010. Since I'm classified at ADHD, a guess I'm not qualified to drive a truck without being evaluated by a psychologist. The problem is that I have to pay out of pocket and I'm looking at $500-1500 dollars to be evaluated. Do these DOT exams hold me back completely within the DOT network or could I possibly go through another company like Stevens Transport and do another DOT medical card and not mention my past history and get away with being ADHD. I'm not hyper like I used to be when I was a kid and my doctor doesn't recommend me taking Adderall since it was only primarily used for school related stuff. I just don't have the money nor medical insurance to go through all these test just to get certified. I'm also 6k in the hole for truck school. I have pre hires for some of the major companies but I'm a bit worried that this disqualified DOT card will stop me completely from working.

    Any advice would help.

Now that all dot medical examiners are federally certified it will be reported and you will not be able to pass an exam without the release...you should be able to obtain a release from the original doctor who prescribed the meds and explanation why you were taken off.

Med cards are regulated by the states.
Are failures required to be reported to a driver's home state if he never goes to work for the company?

OP, did the doc issue you a failure card? Is there even such a thing?

Seriously, could any trade/job/profession be any more Byzantine than trucking?

All dot physicals are now reprted on a national registry to prevent people from doctor shopping...

So if you apply to a company and that company pays for the physical but you don't go to work for that company the physical, pass or fail, is reported to a national database?
    How can that work?
Say I went to a company orientation, passed the physical, got approved for a two-year card, then opted out of working for that company, that medical card is on file at some central clearing house?
Since the states are the regulating authority for CDL medical qualifications, how is that possible and how does it work?

Edit: Anybody got any regulatory references for this?

@Tow614, I've been on Adderall since middle school. Do to cost of the meds (no insurance), I quit taking them around the end of high school and haven't been on the medication since. This was about the same time I gone from a Pediatrics to the primary care doctor I have now. But this DOT doctor doesn't believe me and I had my doctor write a letter and everything possible but he decided that I'm not emotionally fit to drive a truck due to ADHD. I'm now looking for a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist so I can get a note that I'm emotionally stable to drive a truck.

@AppalachianTrucker, for the failure card, no they didn't provide one. I'm told I can go see a Psychologist and have a test done. If I pass, which I should have no problem in doing so, I can bring the note from the Psychologist to them and they will Pass my DOT medical. But I wasn't sure if this was registered in a national database where it would block me from getting a job elsewhere and passing a DOT from another doctor. I wasn't sure how the DOT operates since from my understanding, they have a new system in place and there not much info regarding it. If I would have known this info before I jumped into truck school, I would have never signed up. I wanted to start a different career and try something new and now I'm in a deep hole trying to dig myself

so even though the OP has a valid med card until 8/15
having a new physical cancels that?
