Lever binders

Also know as boomers. I've had my bouts w/ them & the sweed/bud bar.

 

This is a very confusing issue, as with most DOT regulations. The use of " over-center, snap, boomer, or dog" load binders may or may not be illegal, depending on what site you go to. The one thing that is clear, is the use of a cheater bar to secure the binder is universally illegal.

 

the tanker store sold ratchets.

i was just told by boss to grab a part and binders. company used snaps so that's what i asked for.

Cheater bars have specially built ends on them just for this purpose. Not to mention without them you would likely never get your chains tight enough to do any good.

 

Semi is talking about a extension bar over the bud bar for more leverage.

 

Oh got ya. That would be pretty #### stupid. Then again it could be a great way to thin out the stupid people .

 

I received 18 staples in my head do to a snap binder, never again will I use a snap binder, I only use the safety binders now, they are the same with one exception

 

Pin in the binder broke when i was pulling it over on a load of logs out in the woods at dark thirty. Woke up laying on my back just were that bud bar dropped me. Still got the scare.

 

When I started with Melton we were doing load securement training. One of the guys was pulling back on a snap binder with the winch bar on it cept he didn't quite get it closed when he left go of the bar. That thing flew across the room and stuck in the wall. The guy doing the training came over and said, "That, boys and girls, is why we don't stand in front of the bar when we are securing a binder." Needless to say, that stuck.

I've seen guys ruin freight with ratchet binders too though. Kind of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other. One guy at a company I worked for would hand tighten the ratchets down, then proceed to get out his ratchet bar and continue to tighten it down until he couldn't get it to go anymore. When our boss, Derek, saw that he suddenly knew who was tearing all the pockets out of the trailers and fired his butt.
