I work for a major LTL carrier, I'm local and don't need to fill out a log book. A friend of mine wants me to drive his dump truck about 200 miles away in the same state. Can I fill out a log for just that one day of work or how would that work? I don't want a ticket from DOT. Thanks in advance for the info.

Bring your log book with you; fill it out normally as you would. Don't recommend you telling your employer though

I don't have a log book. I'll have to buy one. Is it ok to fill out a log just for the one day run? I don't fill out a log book because I'm not required to.

I would bring it just to be in the safe side

You must log the day you drive the dump truck, you must also have the record of your hours for the last eight days. If that was on a time card just ask your regular employer for a copy of it. Fill out the log book for the 200 mile trip for the round trip. When you get back home throw that days log away you don't need it anymore.

When you drive your buddies truck for 1 day, if you got stopped, you would need to provide the previous 7 days logs. So, what you need to do is make logs daily. Your regular job will show "local" every day. Your weekend job for your buddy will be logged.

I would just do last 8 days off duty nd the log for the one day you driving your friend's truck nd not having them to know that you have 2 driving jobs i do it all the time never had a problem just saying duh.
