I'm tempted to grab a cold one on a reset or long break, but I have heard stories of guys getting in trouble, and I'm just too scared I guess. Whether the stories are true or not, I don't want to get caught up in it. Sucks too, because just a couple beers can bring on such a relaxing sleep for me. Plus beer has everything the body needs, like vitamins n stuff.

The beer in the truck kind of worries me, never know who's watching me carry it and if they will call someone, but usually there are bar and grills near a truck stop, great food, drinks and a normal conversation with real people.

Even that has me worried. Getting into the truck after having some beers at a bar. I've heard stories of something small like that getting a guy in hot water.

I wouldn't risk it. Find another way. Liquor store within waking distance of hotel. I'd just grab a cab once a week and stock up the hotel. Exposing yourself on a nightly basis for a sixer is not worth it.

    2 things.

    1) don't put keys in ignition (if getting in on drivers side)
    2) enter truck on passenger side.

nothing wrong with going to get something to drink and going back to your truck, but if you really worried then just enter from passenger door, to sleeper. (and don't leave your keys in ignition).

sleep it off, go shower, should be ready to roll...(depending on how much one had to drink)

No, you don't have to do any of that. When your on your break no matter how long it is you are at home and the same rules apply. You can run the truck all you want and get S*** faced. If someone knocks on your door you don't have to do anything, your at home, same rules. This only applies to private property like a truck stop. There's a reason they sell beer there. People don't sneak around carrying it back to the truck, there's no reason to.

I was in NC and outside watching a guy working on his truck along with a bunch of other guys. The DOT was pulling trucks off the highway and doing inspections at the truck stop. One of the DOT guys came over to us and he asked me first what truck was mine. He then asked to see my log book and other stuff. I said I'm on my break. He didn't say anything and walked to another truck.

Some of you don't realize if your in sleeper mode or off duty you can tell them to go pound sand. This was a small private truck stop. I went inside and told the manager what was going on. He came out and kicked the DOT out. If your in sleeper mode and submit to DOT looking at your log book and other documents means you have to go back onto on duty not driving thereby screwing up your 10 hour break or reset.

Ahhh, so if you've been drinking and simply engage the DOT's line of question, you've just put yourself on duty. Makes sense.

bwahahahahahaa go pound sand. I love it.

I use to park my truck at a large construction company lot. The DOT was in there all the time. Many times I would be down there when I was home just screwing around and this DOT guy was always asking to see my paperwork. He was a real Dick. Told him I was off duty. He asked once when I would be back on duty. Said I didn't know. He was just dying to get me but since I was never on duty or driving he couldn't.

Ok that makes sense. I was wondering how these guys were getting busted with alcohol in truck stops.

boy thats no sh%t skateboard ! those trukstops are our safe haven and place to unwind and relax etc ...kudos to you for telling that nosey ahole to go pound sand ! none of those skin headed pricks biz what we do on private property as long as its legal and were not bothering anyone else .
will say that while i enjoy a few brews while im cleaning or polishing or grilling or just unwinding doing paperwork at the end of the day im dam low key about it and will never be found walkin around with a beer ....iv made more than a few friends on the back row of a truckstop over a grill and a cooler of beer .
maybe if more of that went on there would be a little more of the brotherhood in this biz thats been lost .
